IMHO,
After you have dated long enough to know, that if the children accept her, she will be the one.
After you have dated long enough to know that even if things dont last romanticaly, you will always be good friends.
.... that would be my rule of thumb.

If its serious right away.
If its just for a few dates..whats the point.
When in a relationship part of you are your kids.

I am going through this myself at the moment and since I haven't ever "dated" since having my children I have devised a plan that I think will work for us. I plan on introducing any prospective females to my children (son6 daughter7) as my friend and not doing any physical intimate touching in front of them. That will allow me to see the way they interact together and see my babies reaction to HER. Now of course this may be flawed but it's the best that I have come up with!

Nothing is granted as FOREVER....
it is only *for as long as the parties agree to agree*.
You might ask yourself, based on the length of the relationship so far,
how do we get along? How often do we have a conversation that raises red flags?
What is our mutual goal?______________________________________________________
Live together?_________ or _____________
Get married?_________ Do we have a confirmed date for the ceremony?__________
Does she have children?_____________ or ___________
Will you tell her children and your children, at the same time,
to start to meld the relationship of the children involved?
You have many blanks to fill in, within your own mind. Most importantly,
what have you and she decided as a couple?

I don't introduce my son to hardly anybody that I date. He's only met 3 since my divorce. He doesn't deserve to get hurt if the relationship doesn't work out.
JMRO.

Well i personally never really subjected my son to my dating world...It takes time for u to kno the person and if u involve ur children in that it takes longer rather then u doing it solo!!!! Your first concern is them u will know when the time is right ,never second guess ur gut feeling!!!

Eh, I treat my children like they have a brain. I've heard people say that you have to protect them from getting too attached and so on. That's just life. People are going to come and go, but if you're trying to have a long term relationship with someone you should integrate that person into yours and your children's lives asap.
