From my experience, I think most single people without children are intimidated by the prospect of dating a single parent. I personally do not believe in letting my children (I have 2) meet any dates I go on; I want to know that whoever I decide to date seriously completely understands that my children come first, there is room for him too, but I am a "package" deal.

I know it is tough on both mothers and fathers. It just seems to be really tough for me, though. I have a 5yr old son, and he is my world. I have lost out on relationships because I woldn't put the guys first. I am sorry. NO ONE comes before my son.
I have two daughters they are my world. But as primary caregiver for them it's hard for me to find time for a personal life. I won't date in front of them I made that mistake once. My last relationship after 7 months into it I thought hey it's safe for him to meet my kids(thank goodness they thought he was just a friend). He disappeared 1 week later. Now their dad has a girlfriend and it's all good. But my youngest says it's okay for daddy but mommy, I don't want you to have a boyfriend. I can understand why. But it's not easy.

Someone mentioned a local meeting place Called Parents Without Partners...Unfortunately I have not the time to check it out because of my schedule @ work but you might want to.

I agree with christy... But I do have to say that alot of people in my area still look down apon single moms because we are smack dab in the middle of the bible belt and ofcourse its just not right...
I was terrified as a single sunday school teacher to tell my church and friends from church that I was pregnant... But believe it or not no one at my church passed judgement and everyone loves me and my son..
Ive not actually tried to find anyone to have in my life.. Life with my sons father was extremely rough.
Most of the guys in my area just want a fling anyway..

Who is it harder on? That is a tough one, at first I was going to say single mums as I am one and the all the turn downs I've been delt come with "Sorry I don't want to raise some elses kids" But single fathers would have it just as hard as women are very b*tchy creatures and I know if my ex had full custody of my kids I would be mad and jealous as hell if another woman were to help raise them even if I wasn't able to and I Would probably make her life hell. So I'd single parents in general are going to find it tough.

i think it depends on who you ask. Even though I am a single dad, I think it is probably much harder for the single moms. Often the guys don't get full custody so at least they have more days to mingle. I mean if your a single mom getting no help from the father, it has to be hard to get free time. I get my son almost everyweek, try finding someone who can deal with that
So I can only imagine the issues the single moms must have.

I think it depends on the situation and custody arrangments. In my situation I am the only parent my son has, his "father" has only seen him once. I feel like with children thrown into any mix with a caring parent it's going to be hard no matter who's in the situation. As another poster put, no one wants to raise another mans children and women don't want "Baby Mama Drama", people need to get over themselves. With todays society it's almose impossible to find someone w/o children, hell I say it's better to date someone with children then they have an understanding when it comes to the difficulties of dating as a single parent.

I'm finding it next to impossible to find dating time and when I do they are so far apart
from each other how the hell do I really get to know someone and start a relationship
without having my girl get involved until I think they might be around for awhile.
I don't want her involved with just any man I date. They usually just last once and
bye-bye because of no chemistry. I'm finding myself caught between a rock and a very hard place!!

Ditto
I couldn't have said any better myself!... I wish I could find another single parent because at least they can relate. The thing is how can you tell the difference between single dad's and married ones?!!

your right, it is a package deal. but in my case, it's more like, "buy one, get one free!"
and for kegleaves, I have mine full time and mom is not in the picture (her choice). I've had my son since he was 16 months old. he's 14 years old now!!!!
