I empathize with all of you ladies in your situations. Not everyone is cut out for school just like some of us are not cut out to be athletes or superstars. I think God gave each and everyone of us a special gift(s). It's just up to us to choose whether to use it or not. But I think it's all up to the person. If the person wants it bad enough, they'll do whatever it takes to get it, sacrifice and all. That's what makes work worthwhile because it's more than just a paycheck, it's a passion that one can see waking up every morning and love doing it. I focus on the road ahead instead of looking at the small things that try to come in the way of goals. I also find that contributing to society in someway maybe through church or helping in community can also show how blessed and fortunate we all are.

Right now, I'm working at the admissions office and going to school full-time for my Master's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies to teach children.

I wish you all the best in your endeavors.

Jen

I finished my degree and am now a teacher. It was the hardest thing I ever did, but now i am successful and proud of what I did. I went from being on welfare and food stamps to being able to give my child and me a wonderful life. Keep going and don't give up! If you need to talk, I'm here to listen, drop a line!

By the way, if anyone is having trouble with college money? You're in luck, you're talking to a Financial Aid representative.
I know you have to:

1.)Fill out an application at www.fafsa.ed.gov. for Pell grants. It's FREE MONEY for school. You are pretty much paid to go to school so long as you maintain the school's GPA minimum which varies from school to school. You can apply for Stafford loans if you do or do not qualify for the Pell Grants. But if you're a single parent you would automatically qualify because of your situation. Stafford loans are the ones you have to pay back. The good thing about stafford loans is they have low interest rates compared to other loans that banks try to offer you. You can also defer your payments until 6 months after you leave/graduate from school depending on the bank that you choose as your lender. Research lenders with low interest rates and the option to defer payments.

They should also have work-study programs in which you can get paid working in school. So that your work hours would not conflict with your schooling.

Take advantage of the loans for living expenses. When you do your change requests, check unsubsidized so you will not have to pay interests while you're attending school.

Speak to your school's cashier about Payment options plan in which you pay a biweekly/monthly rate at which you can afford. All that is required is your W-2 and 2007 tax return.

Hi I'm a single mom of a disabled son (22) and a teenager (14). I work part time and in college full time. I have to maintain a strick schedule and stick to it. I take my classes on-line which has been a God send and I pray a lot. If you set your mind to it and stick to a routine you can do it. Much success!

Ive been in and out of colleges cuz i couldnt find the right school to go to. But now i found one and im going full time, and its not easy to be a parent, as single one to be precise and to be going back to school and top of that working too but it is managable. I juggle school and being a single parent cuz i do have my daughter 100% of the time. I have many years of schooling to do, 7 more to go, oh joy but its going to be well worth it.
