I don't need material things......I want a companion that I can have fun with. One that will treat me with respect and one that I can trust. Is that so hard to find??? YES!!!

I do not think this is a gender issue. All sorts of people out there, male, female, friend, relative etc.....Some are givers and some are takers.
I have a sister who is a self proclaimed taker and she ain't whistlin dixie about it. Everything and everyone in her life boils down to one thought, what's in it for me?
If you are a giver, you need to separate yourself from takers or they will suck you dry. If you are a taker, better find yourself a giver so you can take freely.

If I didn't care for a man, the way he already is, then how could I ever fall in love with him. I except people for who they are, not what they have, or who they could be.

I think that both parties are responsible for taking what they need from a relationship and both parties are responsible for giving only what they want to give.
Then you make a decision if you are getting what you need from the relationship
