I'll Be There For You: The Many Love Affairs of Friends by Sue Jones

The hit television show Friends premiered on the air in 1994 and lasted for ten seasons. It was a huge hit among singles of all ages, and the cast consisted of several twenty or thirty something friends who all lived in the same apartment building. Many times, different characters on the show were looking for love, whether it was on a date with a stranger or even amongst each other. There were many different plots and subplots on Friends, but perhaps the most well known was the on and off love affair between Ross (played by actor David Schwimmer) and Rachel (played by Jennifer Aniston).

Ross and Rachel had known each other for many years, but it’s not until they get a bit older that a flame ignites. Ross pines for Rachel throughout most of the show, although she attempts to tell him that she likes him as well. Ross liked her from his high school days when she hung around his sister, Monica. Eventually, when they live in the same apartment building, the two do get together, start dating, and have an on and off relationship in the later seasons of the show. The very end of Friends ends with the pair saying they are done playing games & that they really do love each other.

Another interesting relationship on the show was Monica (played by Courteney Cox) and Chandler (played by Matthew Perry). Much like the other friends, Monica and Chandler had known each other for some time. Eventually, their relationship blossomed although they tried to keep it a secret. Eventually, however, the secret was exposed and Chandler proposed, and Monica said yes. The two were married on the show and were the first couple on Friends to be married.

Ross was not the only cast member that Rachel had a romantic relationship with. Joey also dated Rachel, which was a huge surprise to not only their fellow friends, but to fans of the show. Joey (played by Matt LeBlanc) had a “thing” for Rachel that finally came to fruition. The time period in which they were (dating) was fairly short, but it caused a stir nonetheless. Phoebe (played by Lisa Kudrow) also had a relationship with Mike (who was played by Paul Rudd). Mike and Phoebe were engaged on the show. Here’s some links for Friends about the many fun relationships that occurred. Friends was a truly great show for singles who know what it’s like to look for that one true love.
