I'm going to be buying a car soon, what's a good reliable car? I have a Honda civic now, it's been good so far but I'm kind of wanting something else. Any suggestions? Thank you!

it all depends on how you drive, where you drive, etc. a toyota yaris isn't going to pull a cattle trailer, nor is a one ton dually necessary for commuting in san francisco ...
instead of asking silly people on the internet, search within your price range, read up on reliability ratings, safety ratings, resale value, depreciation, etc. you know best what you can afford and what you need the vehicle to do, be smart, do the research ... put in the work yourself, google is your friend

if you're going to get a 3.8, look for a GEN II if possible. Or one with maintenance records. If repaired and maintained they'll run, but if you let the gush antifreeze out of the head and intake gaskets, it's obvious it'll fry em and melt the silly plastic intakes.

it's a good idea to replace the lower intake gaskets on the GM 3800s with aluminum 'upgrade' gaskets. $70ish from your friendly neighborhood dealership and not too time consuming of a job (takes a wee bit longer on the supercharged versions).
Another common issue on the 3.8 is PO171/PO30x codes stemming from easy to fix vacuum leaks.

I personaly wouldnt buy a used 3.8 that had dex cool antifreeze in it and when 1 comes to me the first thing i do is put real anti freeze in it. The oil sits on the bottom and the water rises to the top rusting and rotting the upper half of the motor .oil and water dont mix ull find urself in some serious shit

Once past the issues with leaks both vacuum and coolant they are dependable. I see a fair number in the shop but they still move. And price point comparison you can get one on the cheap that generally hasn't been flogged. But it is true brand doesn't matter when you have a set amount of money to work with.

Honestly, anything early 2000's and up will do. All comes down to its maintenance history, condiotn.etc.. And what catches ur eye plus what u need, mpg or SUV..ideally you want a car that is very common and is known as a affordable solid vehicle.ford Chevy Honda. All the same.. All break and all are cheap to fix. Some examples to stay away from are Hyundai, Suzuki, jaguar, BMW, andything that sounds flashy will bite u in the long run or if the car make and model sound cheesy amd uncommon. Hope that helps.

[:/quote]where you live theres no snow.. I would go with the Mazda Miata!! for 1 it's a convertible ..just put the top down and enjoy the breeze in your hair..small compact with high fuel economy which might not be too high for some but it would give you a solid 26 to 32 miles per gallon..they're fun sports cars to enjoy yourself with...what reliability and they are very non for that the 1.6 liter the 1.8 liter extremely reliable cars..they're very common to get 250,000 to 300,000 miles on them without any major problems parts are cheap motors are cheap so no matter what happens you're in good standing with your wallet

You will do great with any Jap car. I love Toy's and Honda's. BUTTTTTTT, little is NOT GOOD in Cali. We had a mitzu hatchback and was rear-ended by a full size truck and my daughter (5 at the time) sustained major brain damage. You have to look at safety as well. I will NEVER have a small car again. With that being said, I don't live far from you, we have to deal with all the f**king tree-huggers sticking their nose where it doesn't belong and preaching about the polution, gas usage, global warming not to mention your f**king bra size....... soooooo, if you can deal with the liberal bull-shit from the Cali's then go for the truck. I do!!! They are preachin to the choir when they give me an earfull.

Ford Model T or Model A. They have been around for 80-100+ years. They are very simple to repair. If the starter goes out, you just crank them with the crank or jack up one rear wheel off the ground and spin it till the car starts. OEM and aftermarket parts are widely avaliable and cheap compared to todays cars. Gas mileage is between 23 and 29 mpg and runs on regular. They do not lose their resale value.
Down side: No AC, no wipers, no blinkers, no ps, pw or seat
belts. The T's top speed is 35 mph but the A's top speed is 55-60. Problem, at those speeds, it will take a 1/4 mile to slow down enough to stop. But they never lose their value. AND, "You can have any color you want as long as it is black" H. Ford
