FINALLY - FINALLY - FINALLY
I got to be what I was supposed to be from the start.
I am now a beatnik. I write, draw musicians, paint and read good literature (mostly theology). I go to certain clubs here in Winnipeg, draw the musicians and give them the drawings.
I don't need to make a living at it and so when I have already given some of the regular musicians two or three drawings I can't really give them more without it being creepy, like I am stalking them. Therefore I give them to the ladies at the doctor's office and to the receptionists at the dental clinic or waitresses or waiters at the coffee shop.
It is irrelevant to me if my work gets published or makes me any money and the things I write are rather dark, from PTSD nightmares. I paint images that illustrate the stories and use the music domain as therapy. One dark image for twenty-five musicians keeps me in some kind of balance.
I painted a piano keyboard on the foil just under the front bumper of my 88 Volvo wagon and don't care if anyone likes it or not.
I live in 'Osbourne Village' which is the 'weirdo' section of Winnipeg where people have multi-colored hair, business suits, track suits or ripped up jeans and a guitar in tow.
I am an 'old cowboy' from Alberta with my cowboy boots and collection of old hats so I am barely noticed in 'the village'. The dumpster divers feel safe with me and I spend my time doing whatever enters my empty head.
My children love me, their friends think I am an 'adventure' so how good does it get?

I am blessed to have fulfilled my Dream of being a Counselor.
I worked with Crisis as a Suicide/Homicide Counselor. It is fast paced and never dull.
I love to help people and encourage them. Sometimes, we just need someone else to see outside of our box to help guide our way!

OP, for every 5 minutes of excitement in law enforcement, there is 2 hours or more of paperwork. I think the producers of the show COPS said they have 30 or so hours of film to get each half hour show, which without commercials is around 21 minutes of action. I have been told the most important skill in law enforcement today is knowing how to type. Actually its always been that way.
I go with retired. I made the decision years ago to trade time for money. Work less, have more free time. Its all about balance.
Now of course, the problem is I have the time and resources for a relationship but the women are either still working too much, or and this was interesting, are not so sure they want to be in a relationship with someone they have to spend too much time with.
To each their own. We shall see.

I had a whole list of them as a teenager, and was fortunate enough not to have to pick: I've been an attorney, worked in social services, taught and made my living as a writer. I loved them all in their time, but writing is really what I believe I'm made for, and probably what I'll be doing in some form or another for the rest of my life.
