Different time and war from what we fought, no jungle that you can't see 2 feet in front of you. For me it is hard to believe a lot this movie.

Maybe I have a bad attitude (OK, that's confirmed) but after being in the military, I have no interest in military movies. Unless they're a comedy, I'm still cool with that. But otherwise new movies like Zero Dark Thirty or old ones such as Full Metal Jacket have absolutely no appeal to me.

War of the Roses
I do not watch War Movies, they are all "actors"....
When I want to experience a war thrill all I have to do is let the memories of what I was doing at this time in 1968, flow.....
Since I was attached to the Australian's very little has been put out in the US about their contribution during Tet of 68..
This was copied and pasted from the Australian Government Web Site, the rest is forever embedded in my memory. I don't need no BS war Movies
"The Battle of Coral-Balmoral was a series of significant actions fought in South Vietnam during May and June 1968 during the Vietnam War. The battle, which consisted of several actions, went on for 26 days and was the biggest unit-level battle of the war for the Australians.
In response to intelligence reports the 1st Australian Task Force (1 ATF) was ordered north from its usual base of operations in Phuoc Tuy province, to an area north-east of Saigon just east of Lai Khe. The move was designed to block an impending communist offensive by regular troops of the North Vietnamese Army's 7th Division aimed at influencing the peace-talks, and saw 1 ATF take up positions along likely enemy infiltration routes into the capital in an operation similar to that carried at three months earlier at Bien Hoa.
On 12 May, The Australians flew ( 2 105 Howitzers by Chinook and ground troups by Huey) two companies –(186 men total) of the 1RAR and 3RAR and an FO team ( I was part of this Team) from the US, A Battery, 2nd Battalion, 35th Artillery regiment, into the new area of operations, designated AO Surfers, and established Fire Support Base Coral.
Initially secured by 3RAR with New Zealand gunners from 161 Field Battery RNZA, in support, the base was only partially completed by the evening due to delays caused by weather in flying in the second battalion.
The Base was subjected to heavy rocket and mortar fire (approx 70 RPG’s & 200 Motar’s & 75 Rockets) during the evening and at 0145 the next day the enemy attacked in strength.
More than 400 troops of the 141st North Vienamese Regiment assaulted Coral, over-running the 1RAR Mortar Platoon and forcing the abandonment of one of the pits containing a 105 mm howitzer of 161 Field Battery.
After falling back to secondary defensive positions a fierce counterattack by the Australians eventually repelled the North Vietnamese assault by 0800, which also included the 161 Field Battery gunners firing their “single” remaining field gun over open sights.
This assault was also backed up by considerable support from American fixed wing aircraft and Helicopter gun ships.
13 Australians were killed and 25 wounded, while the North Vietnamese left behind 51 dead and one prisoner. (Estimated Kills by blood trails 185)
A Squadron, arrived by road on 13 May, after escorting the rear echelons and US 155 self-propelled artillery from A Battery, 2 Battalion, 35 Artillery Regiment.
FSB Coral was again assaulted on 16 May, coming under a heavy barrage (estimated 50 RPG’s, 275 motars, 80-90 Rockets) at 0215 followed by a regimental sized attack. Three companies from 1RAR were manning the perimeter and all come under heavy attack.
Again the base was penetrated, but after a six hour battle the North Vietnamese were again forced to withdraw after suffering heavy losses. 5 Australians were killed and 19 wounded, whilst the North Vietnamese left behind 34 dead. Intelligence assessments later indicated that “fewer” than 100 of the 790 NVA troops that took part in the assault “survived unwounded”.
Colonel Donald Dunstan, the 1ATF commander, subsequently decided to establish 3RAR in a new location, and the battalion occupied Fire Support Base Balmoral on 24–25 May, six kilometres north of Coral.
The infantry were this time supported by Centurion tanks from C Squadron, 1 Armored Regiment which had been called forward by road from Nui Dat and had arrived from Coral just hours before Balmoral was subjected to an two battalion North Vietnamese attack. Following a very accurate rocket and mortar barrage at 0345 on 26 May, the base was assaulted by enemy infantry. The attack primarily fell on D Company and was repelled with heavy casualties by the combined firepower of the tanks and infantry.
The next day the Australians at Coral assault a number of enemy bunkers that had been located just outside the base, with a troop of Centurions supported by infantry destroying the bunkers and their occupants without loss. A second major North Vietnamese attack, again of regimental strength, was made against Balmoral at 0230 on 28 May, but was called off after only 30 minutes. The North Vietnamese were soundly defeated – by the supporting fires of tanks, artillery and mortars – leaving 55 dead and six prisoners. Australian losses were one man killed and six wounded.
Throughout 1ATFs deployment to AO Surfers the Australians had conducted extensive patrols and had clashed with the North Vietnamese on numerous occasions. These patrols continued into June, however with contacts decreasing it was decided to redeploy back to Nui Dat, and ARVN units were directed to relieve them.
The last Australians left AO Surfers on 6 June. The battle had lasted 26 days and the Australians had helped break up the North Vietnamese assault on Saigon. North Vietnamese casualties included 267 killed (confirmed body count), 160 possibly killed, 7 wounded and 11 captured, although this is considered a conservative assessment and was undoubtedly considerably higher. Australian losses were 25 killed and almost 100 wounded, along with 2 wounded Americans from the 155 Artillery SP Unit.
