O.k. I read the minutes from our recent board of governors meeting regarding our local bus routes. Apparently, there is something in there about certain disabled services being only offered to those with an ADA card certifying their disability. I have no clue as to what such a card is and a google search turned up nothing. Any ideas?

I'm on SSI, I have a disabled parking permit, I am on the bus company's list for the disabled discount rate on my monthly pass (the pass looks like all the others and in no way certifies your disability, the only difference is the price), I get disabled student services from school, I have medical baseline rates from my electric company, and I even have a disabled discount pass for the state parks! I have all of this, yet I've never seen nor heard of anything called an ADA card. I'm really confused. Anyone have any idea what they might mean? There is nothing that the bus company itself issues to certify disability (I checked) so it couldn't be referring to something like that... Everything I've ever been approved for regarding my disability has only required me to show my medicare card or have a certification from my doctor, never any sort of "ADA card."

P.S. I HATE the rules regarding how long a thread title needs to be and not putting more than one exclamation or question mark in there. The original thread title was "ADA card???" I felt that was neither excessive nor unclear as to the topic. Stupid rules, but I know they're the site rules and y'all can't change them. I just had to whine a bit about it because it's frustrating.

Yeah, I kinda gathered that there was no such card. However, I was willing to accept that I might be mistaken about that one. I don't know all the details of the ADA, but I do know it has helped in some ways. In what ways do you feel it's lacking? I don't ask this to be antagonistic, but just to get your thoughts on the matter because I honestly don't know a whole lot about the act.

Not sure about your state, but there's probably a similar program through your state parks department. I only found out about it when I was arranging a group camping trip this last summer. You can usually also get a reduced bus pass if you take the bus at all. There are a few discounts out there for the disabled, but I'm not sure what all of them are. If I think of any others I'll let you know for sure.

Namaste,

Daniel

The ACCESS bus card I have say ADA card on it. That is what I posted to you about in another thread about your bus ordeal, if that's not it. I haven't a clue.
I went back and read my post, maybe I wasn't very specific. An ADA card card let's you ride a small bus or van which is more like a taxi. They come to your door to pick you up and drop you off at your door. It is a shared ride so you might be visiting other peoples houses in between. Your ride might take longer or it might not because of the stops the regular bus makes and it's schedule. It is all ADA seating so you are guaranteed a seat.

Linda

Hi Wolf,
I found this information on the ADA Web site. They have a lot of information. I hope that this will help you. I get very upset when disable persons are treated unfairly.
