I was hoping that oletafive might have started one her. Perhaps he will pop in and help me once in a wile.
I think the best place to start is at the beginning with Genesis. The study guide I will be using is from the Life Change series. NavPress. I do not claim to be a teacher; I am a student as you.
If I start this are you willing to fallow? Is five or ten a good start?

Introduction
Genesis means “beginning” “origin”
The book of beginnings.
In it, God Lays the ground work for the rest of scripture. His revelation of Himself to man. We will cover the beginning, man’s plunge into rebellion and its consequences – shame, death, murder, rootlessness, tyranny, idolatry, and war.
Things to think about as we go over the book.

1. a. take a peace of paper on one side mark 1, 2, 3, on other write 4, 5, 6.
On days 1-3, God gave form to what had been the formless darkness of chaos. In the left column write how God did this. (Observe the repeated words “separated” or “divided” in 1:3-13.)
b. On days 4-6, God filled what had been the emptiness of chaos. In the right column note how God did this on each day.

2.a. What correspondence do you see between the two sets of days?
b. What does this pattern tell you about God and His creation?

3. What do you think God wants us to learn about Himself, the world, or ourselves, from each of the fallowing repeated phrases?
a. And God said, “Let….’ And it was so.”
b. “it was good” (each created thing) and “it was very good” (all creation)

4. a. What purposes or commands did God give to …
The sun and moon (1:16:18)
The animals (22,26)
Man and women (28)
Plants (29-30)
b. what can we learn about our world from the purposes God assigned to each part of His creation?
5. In summary, what does 1:1-2:3 reveal about Gods nature and character?

Kiddykat,

Read your lessons faithfully and participate in the discussions. The instructor feels like he is wasting his time if no one participates. You have to read the lesson so you know what you are talking about. But more importantly, this reading is for you it will begin a closer walk with God and Jesus.

Brother oletafive
See God knows I will need you from time to time, This is a learning session for myself also. I will still pop in on your session also I’ll just be spending more time over here.
Sister kiddycat
Oletafive explained it well. As we go over a book, we can help other see something new by asking questions. By getting to know the characters better will help us understand their role and effect they have and had on us today.

5. In summary, what does 1:1-2:3 reveal about Gods nature and character?

My thoughts are that God was involved in every detail of creation. He took the void, the formless, the nothing and created everything, with a specific order and function. He has a purpose and involvement in everything. He has a purpose for and personal involvement in our lives whether we follow him or not.

David

PS - That's Rich for starting this. I'll participate when I can, but I'm involved in an intense study group at present.

Hebrews 1:10 And: “You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the work of Your hands.
Genesis
The History of Creation

NKJ The new King James
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep.
(b) And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. NKJ
B – is not in the original Hebrew text.

ASV American Standard Version
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 And the earth was waste and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep:
(b) and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

NLT The New Living Translation
The Account of Creation
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 The earth was empty, a formless mass cloaked in darkness.
(b) And the Spirit of God was hovering over its surface.

My explanation is
The Energy of The Holy Spirit Shrouds a void.
What is yours?

Yes, I can see the Spirit shrouding a void. I also envision the Spirit in place ready to take that void and create something special out of it.

Consider our hurt/suffering/loss. If we open up to the Holy Spirit, these pains can be transformed into something good. At a minimum, we will have our faith strengthened. We may find a purpose in helping those that suffer from the same thing. Or perhaps God allows that loss so he can prepare you to replace it with the good thing he has for you.
