To be honest I'm not a big fan of either but between these two EVO has more potential and would be my choice. Idk how much $$ u plan on dumping in to make it faster though. There's a guy around here daily driving an EVO running low 9's..

. They are the most closely related in price, size and power... Yours are kinda the nerdy kids in a jock contest. Vr4s and gsxs had a tendency to explode violently under heavy boost, subaru wagons were never that fast... And baja beetles arent awd.

I vote STi... Of course I'm biased because I have an 04 stage 2 STi. Evos are awesome. And these days they are more high tech then the STi. But when i was car shopping, it was between my STi and an EVO 8... Both used... Unfortunately the Evos are only good when thy are new... EVO is kinda like the rich kid car now... Gotta buy it brand new or It's worthless... But i see a lot of STi with 150-180,000 miles still running strong. The big turbo on that 2.0 liter block kills th EVO motor too early.

Its as simple as this, you can harness more power with less money from and Evo then an Sti and ecosystem are a little quicker around the track stock to stock but as far as daily driver/ track car compared to just track car I go Sti. When you start dumping money I to the 2 of them they are even. But going fro stock to light mods evo's are more efficient for power gains. But at the end of the day your still driving an evo not an Sti. There in lies the problem. The awd isn't as good as subarus not to mention the gear box. The Turbo is in a shitty spot and upside down in an evo. Did I mention subarus sound better also? Hahahaha I own and worship subarus but I'm not going to make a biased comment just because of that. Evos throw down, but its like owning a mustang, at the end of the day your still parking just a Mitsubishi in your garage.

Not sure why you would choose a VW over a Japanese car. They are 3x as expensive to fix when they break, not to mention after the 150000mi mark they usually leak oil like all the gaskets just disappeared. . . Oh yeah and their awd they produce is junk and only offered on their luxury models and the r32. WEAK!!! and did I mention they are SLOOOOOOOOOOOW. . . but otherwise good cars. Hahahaha

Anywho, aside from my smart a** comments... Well, from what I've seen at the track, I know that both of those cars max out at about 550HP without dumping gargantuan amounts of cash into them. Overall, both are sick no matter what you wanna do with them. Drag, road course, or rally.
I like the STI's the best overall, and a Subie will last you for a long time. Just keep up on the maintenance (like any ride).
Plus, get a nice exhaust system, and even before people see you, they'll know what you drive. 
Oh, and random... but to the guy mentioning stuff about a GTR. I'm a Nissan enthusiast as well, however, that was pretty far off topic. lol Yeah, it's AWD, but that's about it. lol Perhaps an R33 would be in the same price bracket, but it's only good for road course and drag (maybe drift if you get a GTS-T). Thing is about the GTR... unless you have it modded with EXPENSIVE software, you can't drive it on the streets in track mode. Once at a track the GPS will enable the GTR to fully open up. On the streets it's somewhat wattered down a little (still quick none-the-less). Also, I know if I owned a GTR, I would be VERY worried about the warranty. The engine is engineered so freakin tight, and the tolerances are crazy small. Plus, if it's one of the early year new GTR's, I'd really take it easy on the launch control. You'll kill your trans in no time. A glitch the early ones had in the launch control... Aside from that, Godzilla is back. haha

The sti was released as a production car in 94. They had been building them for a few years prior to that as race cars only. And you are more then likely a ways away from.being an sti.

this is one of the worst attempts at a put down on an sti i have ever seen. Its the same argument as cam vs stang. Like whatever you want. Dont let other people convince you one is better.
