Get a Phillips or a Sharp.
You should go to
www.digitaltrends.com
Find reviews on TVs. That should help you.

LED = Light Emitting Diode

LCD = Liquid Crystal Display

Not trying to be a smart a@@ but you would do much better by researching all these questions online..google..and have a lot more information available which can allow you to make a much better informed decision on what to buy. Good luck.

LEDs are used in lights, e.g. flashlight, car lights, etc.

LCDs are used for flat screen displays.

Can a person even get HD from an antenna- picking up broadcast stations?

Yes. Mist stations broadcast in HD. You need a special antenna.
most internal parts on a TV are made by the same company.
At one time Westinghouse made all the internal components. Then it was Hitachi.
Led screens were made by nec.
They are all disposable.

It varies from year to year, and model to model. Sony is usually great, but does produce a few lemons now and then. Sanyo, Sony, Samsung, and Panasonic, are generally quite good. Consumer Reports Magazine can give you more details on features, brands, longevity, warranties, recalls, and such. Do you want: Plama, or LCD? 3-D? What size screen? Do you want a 'Smart TV', which can hook up to the Internet, to stream shows from HULU/Netflix, etc? Do you want 1080P screen resolution, or will you settle for 720p?

What sort of connectors do you need? If you have older VCRs, DVD players, etc, you will probably need at least one Composite connector, and one Component connector, and an RF connector may be useful, too. If you have newer DVD players, etc, you should be sure that a new TV has at least two HDMI connectors, and a Game Channel. Features you may like, but not necessarily need, would be PIP (Picture In Picture), POP (Picture Outside Picture), Parental Guidance capability, and a PC connection capability.

The TV that is best for you is the one that best suits your needs, and does so at a price you can afford, and does so without undue difficulty, or malfunctioning. That will depend upon how you will use the TV, and how much you are willing to spend on it. Most TV sets have similar quality overall, but not all will have every feature you want, and some will cost more than others. If you play a lot of video games, have a TV that has a specific game channel. If you will watch a lot of Blu-Ray movies, get a TV that has 1080p resolution. If you watch a lot of action movies, sports, or other things with fast action on screen, get a TV that has at least a 120HZ refresh rate. A 240HZ rate would be better still, as wouild a 600HZ refresh rate. You would find a TV with a 60HZ refresh rate to be annoying to watch, because the fast action would all be blurred.

If you watch mostly slower paced things-Miss Marple Mysteries, etc-you could get by with a slower 60HZ refresh rate TV, and save some money. If you watch mainly with a light on in the room, or sunlight striking the screen, get an LCD screen TV. If you watch mainly in the dark, lights out-theater like-get a Plasma screen TV. Get the largest screen TV you can afford, which still suits your needs. If the choices come down to between a 37 inch LCD screen with 60HZ refresh rate, and a 41 inch screen plamsa TV with 600HZ refresh rate, and you like watching action movies in the dark, go with the 41 inch Plasma screen for the same, or not too much more, money. Buying on sale helps.

You can spend anywhere from $300.00 to $3,000.00-or more-on a large, flat screen, TV set. What may be best for me may not be best for you. Think it over, decide how you will use the TV, and from that decide which features are most important to you. Then, decide how much you can spend on a TV. Then start shopping. The brands named above should be your first to be considered. You may get by fine with another brand. Element is a brand from China which is fairly new, and has not built up much of a reputation for either good, or bad, quality...yet. You may want to take a chance on such a foreign, unknown, brand, and so get more features for less money. Or you may want to play it safer by going with a more known to be reliable brand like Sony. That is your call.

RCA is going out of business, soon. They are already closing down the digital camera part of the operation. The big screen TV wing may be next. As such, an RCA TV will be lower priced, but if something does go wrong with it, you won't be able to get repairs, or replacements for it. YOU must decide what will be best for you. There is no one, single, universal, answer to your question. What is best for you today may not be best for you two years from now. Research, shop, and buy. Then let us know what you went with.

Once you narrow your choices to 3, or 4, possibles-and you have the specific brand, and model numbers in mind/on a piece of paper-go to several stores, find those TVs, and look at them. Which TV makes the movies being played on them look best to you? Remember to notice the lighting in the stores. Bright overhead fluorescent, lights will make the TV screens look brighter in the store than they will seem in your home. If a store has a dark show room, to simulate the home den/theater environment, look at the TVs playing movies in that room. Are the movies action based, or slow paced? It pays to research, and comparison shop, before you buy. have at it, and let us know what you get.

LED screens are newer, better, costlier, versions of the LCD theme.

LED tv's are better but also more expensive. You should go with a 3D tv. They are awesome. Vizio seems to be a good value tv.

You can get HD via antenna. You may need a analog to digital converter if your tv doesn't have one built in though.

I like the picture quality of plasma but they put off a lot of heat. If I had it to do over I would get a 3D LED TV. My brother just got a Vizio 65" 3D LED smart tv. You can use passive glasses with it and I thought it was awesome. The active glasses take batteries and are uncomfortable wearing for a long time.

Good Luck shopping.

I would just stay away from LG and Sanyo

I bought an LG for my living room. It needed some speakers for better sound, but I really like that brand.

This relates to dating, because my date usually is the television.

My magnavox big screen just went out after 7 years. I figured it cost me around $100 a year.
Sharps are a piece of crap. I hear their Aquos is pretty good tho.
LG is good. Thats what my kitchen appliances are.
But my bedroom Toshiba TV has lasted me close to 25 years! That TV is phenomenal.
