Westboro Baptist to picket Joe Paterno's funeral

buckeye1332	1/23/2012 3:39:09 PM I think it is sad how people turned on JoePa. He did not allegedly molest those boys, Sandusky did. He did not say he witnessed Sandusky doing things to a child and not step in and did not go to the authorities, that was McQuery. JoePa went thru the channels at the university, and they did not do anything obviously. JoePa was used as an escape goat in the whole ordeal, and his name and legacy tarnished by what someone else did and what someone else didn't do. JoePa did many great things for college football and Penn State. I will always have respect an admiration for him, even though he coached against my Buckeyes. To me he will always be one of the greatest coaches, a great man, a legend, and a icon. RIP JoePa, the world lost a great man.

He, as well as being the PSU President, is the Secretary of the Board of Trustees. So, if he was fired because he knew about the scandal, you can bet your bottom dollar that he shared that info with the other key players on the Board - so, why aren't they resigning in shame - why? because they are part of the one percent that gets away with what they want.
christineone	1/23/2012 4:09:37 PM This is a story with such a sad ending and with joe being the fall guy for so many others.Kevin. im sure you are right and thatjoe was just the fall guy for many more .Maybe they can live with that guilt but i just dont see how.Now that hes gone i just hope they dont turn everything and try to cast all the blame towards him.

go09	1/23/2012 4:59:26 PM Westboro Baptist? at it again?! How can you picket a funeral, the man (whoever he is, and whatever he's done or not) is dead. They certainly can't reach him with their message, and its blatantly opportunistic to use this event to reach others.
cuddly101a	1/23/2012 5:38:43 PM Hi Kevin , Since Coach Paterno was also a Veteran you might want to see if anyone can contact his family and let them know about the PGR We attend the Funerals of All Fallen Heroes and Veterans when invited by the family. We do so to show Our Respect for Their Service ... while thats what we do irregardless of any other groups which may also be attending we are pretty good at handling the WBC and making sure that their antics impact a minimal number of others
charli2858	1/23/2012 6:16:32 PM i have faced this group before as a PGR, all they want is the publicity. Not many avenues now since many communities have figured out how to keep them away. What we did was give them permission to only get so close, actually across a highway, we just blocked them from view. PGR will have good advice on how to not let them disrupt the event.

kevinbarry	1/23/2012 6:43:44 PM Hi Cuddly; That is a good idea. Also, I think 45,000 students can build a pretty good barrier against these NON-Christians. There are students already saying that they will take care of Westboro. Hi Mary; Joe did tell his superiors but they did nothing. Joe, from what I understand, did not follow up, but that, by itself, is not a crime. At worst, it is an error in judgement - not worthy of being fired. I agree, Go09, they should change their name from Westboro Baptist to "Desperately Seeking attention Baptist". and again, like you said, they cannot reach JoePa by being their. and Charli, I agree, 40,000 students and an equal amount of fans and Alumni can keep them at bay - maybe a few miles away. If the students, in anger, turned over a news vehicle (out of frustration) they sure can turn over anything with Westboro plates. Not that I want to encourage them to do so (but kids, if you feel it is necessary to protect JoePa's herse and his family, knock yourselves out.
bluerosemama	1/23/2012 7:00:20 PM ppl like the WBC make it hard for ppl who just want to love God and be good ppl. im shamed and appalled that they even say they profess Christ.... i think mr paterno died of a broken heart and i am praying for his family. i hope everybody realizes those ppl are nuts!
