I a now separated from my wife of 8 years. We had an open marriage for about 4 years. It was pretty fun. A bit hard to get used to at first, but I think it was worth it. It helped our own relationship and to this day, my estranged wife and I remain friends. Had we not had an open relationship and been exposed to it, my break up with her would have been much worse especially seeing her with someone else. But it really doesn't affect me at all. When I convinced myself to do it, I took on the outlook of sex as a hobby. You don't have to have love to have sex. I also looked at it like getting to be with other people who may be quite different, but each has qualities that the other does not have. It also gives the person more experience in bed and can try new things on their other partner, or perhaps give the opportunity to do something that the spouse may not be into. Its like being able to be married, yet fulfill fantasies.
Does that make sense? It has always been hard to explain it to others who can't get past the jealousy issues.
