Because people are cowards, they know that animals (most) are defensless so they feel empowered by hurting something that can't hurt them back, instead of just walking up to the biggest guy on the street and just jawing the shyt out of them, they pick a little animal due to the fact they themselves are harmless little souls and scared to get hurt.... if that makes any sense.

I used to pick up beef for Cargill in Kansas. I felt bad when I saw the cattle trucks taking the cows in to get slaughtered, but I would stop and get a burger when I left.

Don`t like it but my cat is going to get hurt if it doesn`t start using the litter box again. It is on a diet now put it in a cage but felt sorry for it after a few hours. Left it in till I cleaned and mopped the floor but still not getting the message. Still won`t have a full dish of food either till it learns how to act. At least there won`t be as much to clean up.

exactly. it's pecking order. and btw not everyone that abuses animals move on to humans, just saying in general.
this kind of behavior usually isn't understandable unless you take away your own skills and coping mechanisms. Most people also feel guilty or shame. If they had a normal response of guilt and shape, plus the skills and coping to handle their shit- they wouldn't be hurting pets (or kids or spouses etc.). but instead they're on a worse autopilot program compared to others.

So true yesterday there was a male pitbull mix tied to fence outside with no shelter no food very skinny when I approached the dog he was so friendly he looked at me with his big brown eyes as he was trying to tell me to help him ...the dog belongs to supermarket owner poor baby was freezing it literally upset me ..I then reached home and called aspca I'm hoping they do something that store owner don't deserve the dog especially keeping him out on cold and the temperature is 15 degrees ..sometimes human race I wonder myself ....animals are innocent and only know how to love
