OK, I was about 6 or 7, so I don't know why he took me along, but my dad took me to see Frank Sinatra. There were some opening acts, but I don't remember who they were.

When he asks me what I thought of the concert, I told him I enjoyed everybody but the old guy at the end. (!)

People who know me would never guess...my first concert was Jewel's Spirit tour in Portland, Oregon at the Theatre of the Clouds. My mother took me for my 9th birthday. It's a really cool venue, it was an awesome performance and an incredible experience - I'll never forget it.

It turned out that Pie's performance of "I Don't Need No Doctor" that night was recorded for use on their live album, so many of you were there right along with us.

Hey Girl Friend,

Elvis 1955 in Richmond VA. Me; Was in HEAVEN. I was 12y/o, beehive hairdo, bright blue eye shadow and the infamous white lipstick. Thought I was so cool looking, lol. But ticked off with at all the "screamers" who over shadowed his performance.

I saw KISS in 1974 at the Armory in La Porte, IN. Gene Simmons set the roof on fire during the 3rd song (Firehouse) & we were all escorted out. As a member of the KISS Army, I got to see their tour bus, & the band spent about an hour talking with us. A memory I will never forget.

Im' not sure, it was in the mid-sixties and I was in jr. high in Michigan. The 'concerts' were in a high school gymnasium in Saginaw and it cost $2.00 to get in, no seating. You either stood and watched them or danced. I saw Simon and Garfunkel there, the Beau Brummels, Hollies and others I just can't remember and I don't remember who I saw first. Around 1966 I saw Eric Burden and the Animals play a local teen nightclub.
The last rock concert I went to was unfortunately way back in 1980 to see Queen. Then marriage, motherhood, finances and moving too far away from the city made attending too difficult for me.

My first Rock Concert was The Outlaw and the Doobie Brothers 10/30/75,at war memorial stadium in Binghamton,N.Y.,That's when Tom Johnston was phasing out and Michael McDonald was coming in from Steely Dan. Even though Johnston was good, I personally think adding McDonald was the best thing they did. Both bands were great, I had trouble hearing for 2 days. But, it was worth it, after all I was 15 and was in my first band after playing in front of the stereo for 3 years........My first concert to speak of was actually at Haverling high school in Bath N.Y. 2/28/73. I got to see one of the greatest jazz legends...Count Basie + His Orchestra. They were really cool for me to see I was still 12...Both of these Concerts will for ever be etched in my mind, even after all the other great bands that I have seen...

I grew up around alot of music and it holds a very special place in my life. I had seen some small shows but my first real concert was Queen in 1976 at the Omni in Atlanta. The arena is long gone but my memory will stay with me always . I will never forget the gift of Brian May on guiter and what a showman Freddie was! The band had a hit with Bohemian Rhapsody and I had played my lp "Night at the opera" perhaps over a hundred times. I remember watching the stage when the first notes of the song started my heart stopped! I knew then at that moment that nothing could compare to a live show and I was hooked. I have been very fortunate to see some great shows over the years but my first was fantastic

Hi all, I'm a bass player in Missouri, hitting 58 next month. Still play in a band about once a month, classic rock mostly. Came up w/ the name...'GRAMPS W/ AMPS' but it didn't fly! Not everyone has such distinguished taste, yeah baby, yeah!

My 1st ever concert was Paul Revere & the Raiders...we were 13, 14? (I know, I'm OLD!!!)... my buddy's mom was our taxi service, too. Some fun, eh?

My favorite concerts, most impressive (as a young musician)were Cream and Hendrix prolly, but saw the Doors, Jackson Brown, CSNY (Stephen Stills fan), The Rascals, and tons more. Steely Dan is still killer & genius to me, Bruce Hornsby, Joni Mitchell, Delbert McClinton. Geez, I can't remember 'em all at the moment. Saw YES a couple months ago, they kicked butt! I DO recall Leslie West & Mountain, had the vinyl album..."mississippi queen", great guitarist. I liked Steve Miller and Fleetwood Mac back before they were so commercial. The British invasion was huge in the 60's, and I loved lots of it...Beatles, Stones, Yardbirds, Dave Clark 5, on and on.

I still enjoy nearly anything that's well done, played well with passion and taste... whether it be jazz, R&B, rock, soul, funk, or even Metallica. If it's got a great beat, tasty musicianship, good singing/harmony, nicely done arrangements, or balls to the wall, killer playing...that's all music to me. I feel sorry for the kids today, cause I don't hear alot of original, great stuff. We had exposure to the best music ever conceived, whether it was fusion or Allman Bros, tons of REAL music being played and written. John Mayer stands out as a pro now and Christine Aguillera wails! I love Robben Ford, Jaco Pastorius, Larry Carlton, Steve Morse, and Satriani...all tops in my book. Not a big metal guy, and think rap gets tired quick...cause I grew up w/ Motown and blues stuff, more melodic tunes.

That's about all I got, thought I'd stop in & say HI. If you're a player, keep practicing if it's your passion. I began at 13, never had a lesson, and didn't have a friggin clue, but if it's what you love, go for it! Broaden your perspective, listen to a wide variety, develop your style from what you like best, and play as much as you can...you will get good from all the listening and effort you apply.

Take care everyone. BadAssBottomBlastin'...Bob

Yo Matt,

I can't remember the year, but that was more than likely the same concert...sounds about right. I don't think Jimmy played here more than once. I don't remember my bro going either. I think it was a group of band mates &/or school friends.

I'm not proud of this, but I gotta be truthful. It's gonna make me seem older than real old dirt but the first concert I saw was Gene Autry, The Singing Cowboy.
It was at the gym in a part of Columbus GA called Bibb City due to the Bibb Cotton Mill where my mom and grandparents worked while my dad was off TCB due to military commitments.
I was about 5 years old. How did it make me feel? Like I wanted to be a singing cowboy, too.
Never got to be a cowboy, but I'm a musician. Life is good.

Too cute! I was in Killen recently. Do you know where that is?
My first concert was a Motown girls show at the Brooklyn Fox. Featuring the shirells, Ronettes, Shangrilas, etc. I think it was put on by Phil Spector and Murray the K.
We each got a complimentary album of those songs with the $3 ticket price..And you think you're older than dirt, LOL

My first concert was either Blue Oyster Cult or Cheap Trick/UFO. I don't remember where because i didn't drive there myself. it was probably in Philadelphia because I went with my step brother and he was from South Jersey and drove.

The BOC show was awesome. The warm up band, I think it was a local called Cats, really stunk. It was back in their arena days- the Fire of Unknown Origin Tour, I think. I saw them again a few years ago while I was working for a rock webzine taking pics and reviewing shows. They're still pretty good, but they'd done an album mostly of songs they didn't write that didn't suit them, in my opinion. They're from the CT area and play in the clubs here a lot. I got to meet them after the show and they invited me have some food with them. This particular show an outdoor concert in NJ. They're a really nice band to hang with. I've seen them a couple of more times in the past few years.

The Cheap Trick/UFO concert was a really bad mismatch. There were kids in their early teens with their Mom's in the audience to see Cheap Trick sitting next to older teens and people in their 20's smoking pot, drinking, probably doing other drugs puking in the stands. The older kids were there to see UFO. UFO was great. Cheap Trick were OK. My step Bro & I were wishing UFO was the headliner, but Cheap Trick was on their Dream Police tour and just dominating the airwaves back then, while UFO was still scraping along. They were always under-rated even with one of the best guitarists in rock on hand. I almost got to interview UFO for the webzine, but we were at the bottom of the food chain and the interview got bumped from their schedule. At least I got a free CD out of it.

But probably my all time favorite show would either have to be REM at University of Bridgeport gymnasium on their Reckoning tour or Johnny Clegg and Savuka at Toad's Place in New Haven during their Shadow Man tour.

REM was still a young band and there were only maybe 200 people at the show. They were great, though you wouldn't recognize them now by comparison. They were very shy and kept the stage dark. They did an a cappella version of Moon River which was awesome. I still like their older stuff best.

Johnnie Clegg was at the top of his game, with a couple of Zulu war dance partners and a great vocal configuration. During one of the songs they went a cappella and hit notes that vibrated the whole building- not because the mics were loud, but because of the way the notes and combination of voices resonated. It totally blew me away.

I was 6, had an older brother who went to see Kiss, Ted Nugent, and Rush in '74. My brother got to go in, I sat outside the fence (outside show)with my mom and watched the concert through binoculars.

Needless to say, it changed me on a cellular level, and I've been hooked since.

The Who in 1967 at the Fargo Civic Center in Fargo N.Dak. It was the "My Generation" Tour.
It was absolutely mind blowing and the experience was beyond compare. Chills ran up and down my spine as Keith Moon literally attacked his drum set as he played to Entwissells bass beat which was eclipsed by Townsends full swing power cords on his guitar that later morphed into a battle axe, destroying amps and speakers in its way. I was 13 yrs old and have been playing drums ever since.
