I luv combat sports. To me comparing boxing to MMA is like comparing the long jump or 100yd meter run or shot putt to track and field. U might be awesome at the long jump or javilin throw or pole vault but to win the meet u must know all the aspects of track n field, not just one. There's nothing wrong with picking one event n specializing in it, but u can't be the cross fit champ unless u can do it all. Same with MMA. U can specialize in one aspect such as boxing, or muy tai or bjj or wrestling n u might even have some success, but u won't be champ till u know them all.

Who made you the thread topic police? If the moderators were concerned about that title they would have taken the thread down when it first went up not after it has accumulated so many posts.

Boxing in the octagon is just as fish out of water as MMA in a ring. Now you can move on...

This is to anyone replying......Do any of you actually box or fight mma cause if not your opinion(If invalid) is irrelevant. You can't compare boxing to mma because in case you hadn't realized mma stands for MIXED martial arts. That'd be like comparing a unicyclist to a motorcyclist. One style is one-dimensional the other multi. Both are the same and different. If all you do is throw punches of course your hands will be better than someone who prefers to kick. But in my opinion I like to have options, although something must be mastered to become great.

I agree with u exept u don't have to compete in boxing or MMA to have an opinion. The Zuffa Brothers never fought in MMA and they own UFC. Their opinion shapes the sport!

to have a good foundation and to be successful in mma the person needs to be good in at least two areas and be able to defend the rest. Look at Brock Lesner he was a great wrestler and starting to develop his bjj and muy tai skills but couldnt defend the strikers and kick boxers in thew ufc so even though he was a good fighter he wasnt well rounded to become a great fighter
Brock Lesnar is a actor... He became a great show of proof that size means nothing when it comes to skill.
He joined the UFC because he needed money... Not because he belonged.

MMA <3
but coming from an actual fighter <----- In all honesty when im out there fighting/training in one aspect of the sport, its all the same. One moment your using boxing skills, one moment im wrestling and doing jiu jitsu, and back on my feet again doing stand up. THen the next im doing some muay thai.
THe only difference really between boxing and MMA is the GLOVES and the fact that in MMA we can get punched to a bloody pulp before the ref stops our fight, in boxing its a little quicker.
Either way they are both amazing combat sports and all boxers and Martial artist get all my respect.

I dig both...why choose?
I mean if you put the two against one and other I'm giving the MMA fighter a win based on taking the guy down to the ground. So if we are just talking a fight the MMa guy should win.
To each is own but, I like both.

Most ppl are full of s*** about this topic. Its all most the same. Thing. Only different. Rules for example. Boxing. U can only use ur hands Wichita if ur good enough u could beat a mma fighter same goes. For. Mma. Fighters only they use their whole. Body if they use it right. The end results will be victorious but I will. Always. Love. Kickboxing. Cuz it's. The best out of all once. Ur skilled. In ur moves u can adapt. New moves from every sport an ur skills. Will grow even. More

coming from someone that did kickboxing and boxing his whole life. Tried the MMA "thing" Its not a comparison. Boxing involves much more discipline, endurance. The mental and scientific aspects of being a great boxer is no where near a well trained MMA fighter.
