People fear what they don't know or understand. Although Aspergers is not a mental illness some see it as one. Fear, lack of knowledge and ignorance cause people to shy away. The recent shooting at the grade school did portray this syndrome in a very negative manner since the shooter had it. However it was not this syndrome that caused what he did, it was underlying mental illness. Good luck to you. I hope you find in your life what you seek.

conspiracy - it's ok.. I think some people shy away and don't give us a chance.. Not all Aspergus are like the guy who killed those kids.. I have Aspergus, I'm the nices guy on the planet.. I feel it's discriminating when you see this guy with that woman and that woman with that guy, why couldn't I get someone too.. I do get shy sometimes - only because, it's hard to approach someone without feeling they could misread into what you really trying to do - to make new friends.. People now days are hard to approach, they always think the worst - and sexual harassment.. And not always the case, we people with Aspergus get misread, alot.. ( And I'm not saying everyone like that, just most.. )

I completely agree with "bitten" and as a parent of an autistic child I can relate. We have so many challenges and the last thing we need is some unsolicited advice from uneducated people. The awareness is getting out there and one day perhaps people will not be so frightened by this. *Hugs* to you OP I totally understand.
