Burpees are one of the most grueling exercises .

Squat your hands to the ground, kick your feet back into a push up position, do a full push up, kick your feet in, and jump as high as you can out of the bottom. As soon as you land you go into the next one. Great full body exercise and absolutely brutal cardiovascular conditioning all in one.

A good challenge is to do 100 for time. Just managed 100 in 25 minutes which is slightly above average. When I was in better shape I would do 100 in 15 minutes. But I can barely lift my arms and my heart and lungs feel like I ran a very fast 5-6 mile run. Plus burpees have great metabolic benefits since they are so intense. Do them 2-3x a week with 48-72 hours between workouts.

these sound great, but since April 2009, someone injured my knee, so I cant do the exercises that I use to do. must be fun tho

Is it odd that I love burpees? lol they are so fun, i'd take them over push ups and sit-ups any day. Burpees and planks are my crazy favs lol

Ha Ha .. Yes you are a strange woman. But then again I am a masochist when it comes to my own workouts so I definitely get it.

But considering that a burpee has a push up in it you can't really take burpees over push ups can you? Unless you do the watered down squat thrust version where after you kick into the push up position you kick your legs back in without doing a push up. There is a workaround I have my female clients do that can't do actual push ups yet. After they kick into the push up position, they drop to their knees, push up, and then kick their feet back in. Good way to work up to an actual burpee. You can also do them on stairs to get more leverage.

I do whatever they teach me to do it Krav sir. If that's the watered down version so be it, I get the same results. I prefer burpees over push ups because they are more fun

Well next time you do burpees, throw in a push up every time you kick back into the push up position. Then we will see if you still think burpees are fun..
