I have noticed that a lot of people in this forum on weight lose take pills. I have never had any luck on them and did think about doing gastric bypass or the band but I'm not a huge fan of hospitals or healing pains. I was recently diagnosed with diabetes and started trying to eat healthier and smaller portion sizes. I have not begun exercising but I have gained more energy since I went to the doctor and was told my vitamin D & B12 were low and started taking both. With exercise does anyone think taking up kickboxing would be a good way to lose weight or just doing another form of cardio would be better?
When I say healthier eating I mean cut out the fried foods, went to all whole grain or brown rice, more veggies, and leaner meats. I have not had any form of soda in months. I drink lots if water at work and ice tea at home with Splenda in it.

Op,
Cardio, as it's name says, is for cardio-vascular health. It's not a great calorie burner. If your goal is fat loss, the fat loss equation is: Eating less + Rebuilding muscle lost through weight loss = fat loss. You, like many people, are missing the rebuilding lost muscle part of the equation. What does rebuilding the muscle that is lost through losing weight do? It keeps your metabolism up so that your body burns calories around the clock, and it maintains muscle tone. Rebuilding lost muscle can simply be a few moderately heavy(for you) dumbbell exercises twice a week, or even only once a week. If you include some cardio for cardio-vascular health, do it after the weight training, not before because cardio sessions weaken you for weight training.

Hi! In Feb.2007, I weighed a shocking 386 pounds. I was 49, 5'6", and just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I decided enough was enough. My thyroid was not working properly, I suffered from Fibromyalgia Syndrome, Osteo-arthritis, and was in terrible pain most of the time. I did not go on a diet. I changed my diet, beginning with portions. Cut them in half, drank a lot of water, walked as much as I could, which was not much. I began to actually read the backs of packages. If it contained more than 11 grams of sugar per serving, I would not buy it. I turned to apples, oranges, grapes, fish, skinless chicken, oatmeal, splenda for sweetness, and I do not use sausage or lunch meat anymore. I cut waaay down on dairy, especially cheese, my favorite downfall food. I have an insane sweet tooth, I can honestly say that I am a sugar junkie, so avoidance is the key. Pop corn, finely sliced carrots and celery mixed, fat free yogurts. A LOT of nuts, not so hot on the peanuts, but I love almonds, cashews, hazelnuts...all good. Melons...good. Salads...I do not like plain light green lettuce, so I use fresh spinach and throw in black olives, sweet onions, croutons, and a good walnut/rasberry vinagret. No alcohol, but if you can use alcohol, limit to one good glass of wine at dinner. Choose GLUTEN FREE Pastas, gluten is just what it says...glue, turns right into sugar and is stored directly into your hungry little fat cells. There are many drinks, I love sun tea, green tea isnt so good, but it is good for your health. No sugary soda, no soda is even better because the bubbles in soda can cause serious joint and muscle pain in those of us who suffer with FMS. Once a week, I treat myself to one small hershey bar, because it is my favorite, and it satisfies my chocolate craving. Russell Stovers makes the best sugar free candies, but they are not fat free. Today, I weigh 180 pounds. If I can do it, Anyone who puts their mind and will into it can lose that fat. I am not kidding because I knew the weight that I was lugging around was killing me. In March 2010 I had a 100% blockage in a coronary artery on the back of my heart. This kind of heart attack is called 'the widow maker'. Fortunately, I was able to get help and had a stent placed in the artery, which saved my life. I had to go back in September that year to have another stent placed because of a 75% blockage in a coronary artery on the left side of my heart. I am here to tell you, you can do it! Cereals are not all bad, choose low sugar, use a good sweetner, and there are new ones out on the market right now. Instead of using chips and pretzels as snacks, I choose a lightly sweetened cup of cereal such as honey nut cherrios. I do not use milk and eat the cereal like popcorn. You have to tell Yourself, and believe it, that you will die carrying around that extra 50 or 100 or 150 pounds...I am living proof of that. If you need any advice from an expert, let me know!

I think kickboxing would be great I used to box and kickbox and I was at my fittest ever when I did this. I did a lot of jump roping with that too and that was a lot of help but I also used to run. But there are even kickboxing workout videos u can get to do at home if u didn't ant to join a gym or even if money was a problem. Good luck to you

Count my calories and stick to a set daily calorie budget. Example: 1600 calories a day. Walk for an hour a day. Drink a gallon of water a day. Easy and simple.

The only thing that will actually work is a common sense diet, ie. Calorie Control, and working out... Weight training is the best.. Not to gain HUGE muscles like you would think, but muscle mass burns more calories... I work out with 5 to 10 lb weights and I am doing great... 75 lbs in 3 years... P.S. the slower you lose it the more apt it will stay off forever.
