So my cat got into a fight and injured his toe.
And now his nail has separated from the quick.
And the quick is sticking out.

He not limping. He acts normal but licks his toe alot.
I put hydrogen peroxide on it too

Will his claw heal back to normal?

the vet is expensive. But if it won't heal on it's own I'll take him.

My wolves have done the same.It is VERY painful,but as long as it's kept clean and infection free, it will heal.Imagine ripping your finger or toe nail,the whole thing off at once...OUCH!And it hurts pretty bad for quite a while.I'm cringing as I type.I don't recommend giving anything not prescribed by a LICENSED VETERINARIAN to cats since they are very sensitive to medications humans and other animals metabolize easily,nor do I recommend bandaging this type of injury.Don't take the word of anyone you don't even know,including myself.When in doubt CALL YOUR VET.The office visit and maybe some amoxi is a whole lot cheaper than if infection does occur.Since you say your cat was injurred in a fight,I do hope your kitty is 10 days past it's complete vaccinations.Feline Leukemia is incurible and is transmitted through bites and contact with a
the saliva of an infected cat.No,it won't affect you or your children,exept watching your kitty die slowly.Spaying or neutering your kitty not only prevents kittens,it helps prevent tom cats from spraying,roaming{say into the road or a coyotes belly}and fighting.Best of luck,hon.Google spay neuter programs in your area.Often there are programs in place to help you with such expenses.My sympathies to kitty,that foot is very painful right now.

Put a cloths pin on his tail, he will forget about his toe and it will heal faster.

Sorry i was just trying to put it on the lighter side. Your cat will be ok in a few days, the claw will come out and it will heal. It is just like getting a cat declawed, they just pull the claws out but is painful a day or two. The cat will keep it clean.

I would suggest discontinuing the use of hydrogen peroxide. It can cause more harm than good.

Wrap his paw up good so that it has less of a chance of getting infected until you can take him to see a professional. Or look up herbal remedies to try to soothe it in the meantime.

This is wrong- declawing is removing the nail bed, which is removing the last joint of their toe.

I have a veterinary friend who discourages declawing at all costs, for that very reason.
After all, just imagine having someone cutting your fingers or toes off at the first knuckle.

I agree that the toe will heal with probably no problems.
The kitty licking it's toe may actually help the healing process. It may lose that nail, but should grow another one, should the nail bed not be damaged too badly.

hmmmm ... And here I was under the impression that ASPCA was successful back in the '90s in putting a stop to declawing because of its cruelty aspect toward animals. Have I been mistaken all these years? The main reason I never chose to own another cat after the law went into effect. I wouldn't have a female cat ... and I wouldn't have a male cat who wasn't declawed. My drapes are rather expensive to replace.

OP ~~ Hope your cat is doing better today.

You do know that to keep infection in the paw to a minimum that you shouldn't use litter in the cat box but sterilize the box and use styrofoam esses for the little material, don't you? Hope the cat is still on the road to recovery.

yes because although peroxide can help kill bacteria, from what the doctors have told me it can destroy healthy tissue. its sort of like antibiotics. it doesnt discriminate between good and bad. plus on an open would peroxide burns like a SOB!!

This is so true. I heard this from a nurse as well.

Actually warm salt water would be best. Probably a moot point, because by now, I'd say the cat's toe is fine.

~~~ the peroxide kills all the bacteria .. but it kills the good & bad bacteria ... allowing other baterias to gain a foothold in the wound.
As long as it doesnt look infected I think some mild soapy water will suffice in keeping it clean.
I'll bet most of the cats in shelters would choose declawing if they could have a forever home in return.
I would use torn up paper for a little box filler so he doesn't get the place infected.
I had to do that a few days a long time ago when they declawed by removing the claw.
In Europe it is inhumane to get a cat declawed. I never realized it hurts them that bad. Apparently they are in pain for a very very long time. My first cat I had declawed. Now I feel bad. My next 5 cats (yikes, holy shit) have their claws and claw the carpet up. Oh well, .
