I love it here in Newport. We have Lake Memphremagog which is
30 miles long, only 5 miles of it is in the US, the rest of the
lake is in Canada.

One of the great things about living in Newport is that you can
leave the country any time you want (-: We are only a 5 minute
drive to the border. Also, very close to Jay Peak.

The best town though... I would have to say Burlington (it's
more of a city that a town) because there is much more to do there.
You still have beautiful lakes, mountains, you're close to the border
and very close to Montreal, a major city.

Thanks for the tip, Mready4fun

I enjoyed Burlington for all the reasons you mentioned. During my time in Vermont, I never visited Newport. Is it a town that has all the basic needed services like grocery stores, gas stations, a Walmart, etc.?

The lake sounds awesome and it's always nice to be able to visit Canada a short distance away.

Either way, at the very least I'll visit the Newport area as a vacation spot. Thanks!

We do have all the basic needs, it is a pretty big town. We have 2 major supermatkets and several smaller ones, plenty of gas stations and smaller stores and shoppes, and there are plans to start building a Walmart this summer.

If you do a search for "Newport Vermont" on any search engine you will find several sites with more info. You can also do a search on "Lake Memphremagog"

I only like Burlington for the convenience. I live right in the middle of college town, or college ghetto as local news called it, and I hate it. The noise, graffiti, litter and vandalism is difficult to deal with. Housing is very hard to find because of the five colleges. Also there is transitional housing for paroled criminals, gathering house for people with major mental health issues and a homeless shelter where a bunch hang around all within a block of Church Street.
If you ever plan to live in Burlington, go as far from the center of Burlington as you can.
The waterfront is my escape in the winter. It is peaceful in the winter, with only dog walkers and friendly people. You can see the mountains covered in snow and migrating birds.

I think Montpelier is nice. I found the people pleasant and friendly.
They do have a flooding problem in that area but the view is lovely.

I think Swanton is the best town in Vermont. It's right on Lake Champlain and the Mississquoi River, so there's plenty of good fishing, boating, and swimming opportunities. Also, we're one town over from the Canadian border. So it's very easy to visit Canada. The cool city of Montreal isn't too far away either.

Montreal is the party capital of Canada!

I like to visit St. Anne's Shrine on Grand Isle in northern Vermont. It's right on Lake Champlain. In fact, the French explorer Samuel de Champlain is said to have landed there in the early 1600s. It's such a beautiful place to pray and reflect on life.

Go to the Palms Restaurant in Rutland. It has the best Italian food in all of Vermont. And of course, Barre has many good Italian restaurants there too because of all the Italians who immigrated there in the late 1800s/early 1900s to work in the granite industry there!

Tony. Every town you put in your profiles iv been at.

My friend has a camp in island palm.
Hunted there since I was 13. You STILL can not tell me the famous restaurant that was there.

I was staying in white hall ny when you had that profile in may. And I was in Rutland at that time also.
I had to go to d*ck sporting goods there.

And please don't tell me that the profiles were not you.
Your writing is so obvious.

Because the one thing that erks me about you is your a big lier.

If you were straight up on what you talked about I have no problem with that. But your not.

So please answer my questions

Like now. Your telling everyone you own a pizza parlor.

Your a teacher.

Some of the maple tree leaves are already changing color. I spotted a monarch butterfly migrating and flocks of geese gathering at the lake. This is a sure sign that autumn is just around the corner. I love this time of year!

Will the fall foliage still be on the trees during Columbus Day Weekend in Vermont? Or would I need to go up earlier to see the glorious fall foliage?

Columbus Day would be just fine! The foliage will be just turning colors in the mountains.
The colors I am seeing are early because of the environmental stress. I am in the city and a few trees drop some red leaves. It's just a small reminder.

Also, here in Litchfield County of CT, there is some early colors in the leaves. I think it's been because of the cooler nights this summer. We have nice fall foliage here in the hills of northwestern Connecticut, but I would like to see the famous Vermont autumn colors.

Rutland still has a Ponderosa steak house restaurant!

That's really cool because there's no more Ponderosas left in Connecticut. I used to go to Pondersosa in Waterbury when I was a kid in the 80s! At least, there's still a Ponderosa like steak house in Connectiuct....American Steak House. I've been to the one in Meriden, and they make great steaks and have a great buffet including chicken fingers and pasta!

The Ponderosa in Rutland has an awesome buffet spread!
