Okay Please , What does an American citizen with dual citizenship. 
IE: USA and South Korea
What is he doing leading a group of 250 on a vacation (paid for in dollars?) Crossing into North Korea from the "Republic Of China." 
By what right does he then yell for help when he clearly broke the law in three separate sovereign nations??
Clearly he is one of Three different entities.
1) he is a "Christian missionary" leading an invasion of Proselytizers into a country, From a country where this activity is against the law in both countries. So Church and state are separate. The church sent him without the aid of "state" dollars.
2) He is a Capitalist, attempting to spread American dollars in a country where the USA has said Dollars are not supposed to be. So he was going to by cheap and sell high over here?? Still against the American law!!
3) Espionage??? 
No matter the Scenario, He was warned, He knew the risk, As long as he accepts the outcome and doesn't cause any other lives to be harmed, No foul!
But Don't make him out to be something he ain't.
