Dr. Phil says that not all psychopaths are maniacal homicidal maniacs. That is the extreme end of the spectrum. These people thrive on drama, are delusional, and live in a fantasy world.

Some are so thorough in using these attributes that one doesn't realize 'what' they are doing until they have destroyed one's life.

It why we have to be especially attentive to God's word...

Thanks bigd

So you think this is learned behavior? And that maybe these people picked these 'habits' up somewhere along the way of their development?

Do you suspect you have a toxic friend, family member or partner in your life? Dr. Phil McGraw, author of the book "Life Code," says that the world is full of toxic people he calls BAITERs (Backstabbers, Abusers, Imposters, Takers, Exploiters and Reckless) and that evil people are all around us. The key to protecting yourself from BAITERs, the psychologist and talk show host says, is to know how to spot them.

I am surprised he did not include narcissistic tendenacys.

Also, they tend to always blame others and claim to be victims . You see this with abusers all the time, they will always blame the victim. And claim to be the victim them selves.

Well, sometimes I watch crime shows on the ID channel and sometimes
they give the life history of said "nutjob" who committed some heinous
crime or crimes, and as it turns out, many, many of them were all abused
physically and emotionally, and some horribly so.
I am on the "cognitive behavior" side of psychology that thinks all behavior
after birth, is learned. Some event or series of events that these
people endured or witnessed, when they were young, had lasting negative
effects on them. Their brains got so twisted by these events, that
they ended up a big old mess! They all eventually committed serious
crimes. It's very sad!

Very little is actually in the DNA. There was a case example of two
schizophrenic parents that had 3 girls. The eldest turned out to be
schizophrenic, the middle child, catatonic, and the third was able to
go out, sustain a menial job and live on their own. Each was affected
to an exact or lesser degree of psychological malfunctioning.

I can see where children of an alcoholic or drug-addicted parent might
be "predisposed" to become like that parent, but many are not. The
children who were taken away, and lived elsewhere into adulthood, seem
not to be afflicted with those problems.

My mother was a certain way. I see the effects on my sister and brother,
but I was the only one who got some counseling, after I had married and
divorced my 2nd husband. My sister is from another planet altogether,
as my brother and I concur, but then my brother...well...in any case
I can see how my mother, being as she was, has affected us each in some
way, but in different degrees. My dad re-married and had other children
who seem to be doing well and are successful (go figure) but then again,
I don't know them personally.

I think that the point of his little article, which he did with Opra btw, was to show that not all psychopaths are serials killers, but can still mess up your life.

And the biggest thing we need to remember is that we allow this to happen.

Dunn... Would I be revealing anything if I said that you had one of these people in your life? I shall say no more, unless you want to talk more.

I love the part when he says that these 'toxic people' brag (even to you, their next target) about how they screwed over their last conquest.

Anyone have someone in their life that might be considered 'toxic' and fit this profile?
