Do you guys think that I am unable to be a professional nurse because I am a thick woman who has a lot of tattoos and piercings? Society looks down upon my body modifications and for so long it has held me back for so many opportunities because of people passing judgement upon me saying that I am not professional. I don't leave them in and I cover myself at work. Then on the other hand I have patients asking me why I have to cover myself. I get told that I'm just in a phase but I've been doing this since I was like 12. I am a great mother and a kick a** nurse and I have my crap together, yet I still get looked down upon. Why is that? Be open and honest with me please.

I really think public perception of this issue is slowly changing & it's because of courageous proffesionals such as urself, u just keep growing in ur field & ignore the naysayers, this is'nt the fifties & people need to accept that, i for one thank u for staying true to who u are.

Do what makes you happy , the hell with the person standing next to you or the one starring at you ! GOD is the only person that is suppose to judge us , not these ignorant people all around us ! In the end , they are the ones that will be getting judged , not you . So dont sweat it ! Just hang in there , ignore it and you will get where you want to be in life. Keep up the good work , you are helping to save peoples lives ! That should be very rewarding to you . Ask those judgemental ***holes if they can say that , not ! You are doing the right thing , so dont let people like that stop you ! You rock !!!

What kind of nurse are you? Do you work Tele, Med/Surg, ICU? Try the ED they are much more practical I find

I was working oncology but now I'm in the float pool. I've tried getting on in the ED and other departments but it seems like the management has a tight grip on me and will not let me go anywhere else
