------BOO-HOO---WILBER --MY DARLING WILBER IS A YANKEE SPY---WHAT AM I TO DO??? a yankee carpet-bagger ---SCARLETT will never be the same again. 
That word carpet bagger stands out in my mind.When i went to marine boot camp,i went by bus from pittsburgh pa.with 74 other guys.When we got to Paris Island and got off the bus,we were greeted by a second lieutenant who called us a bunch of "Carpet Baggers" from Pittsburgh.
At the time i did not know what it meant.I have found out carpet baggers is what they called the northerners who went down south and made a fortune rebuilding it.
We will just have to call a truce.We could kiss and make up.

Wilbur & I , perhaps other vets here were subjected to tough DIs whom we hated then but later learned to have some respect , no longer could we go to Daddy or Momma to complain about our training from just kids to men ready to face what ever tasks or foe we'd encounter , todays armed forces are hi tech , school boys with computer phones & so much gear it's no wonder they are passing out in the desert heat , & the suicide rate is a tragedy, Our present military leaders & many membersof congress are passing billsto alllow U.S. Forces to bomb Syrian rebels , promising NO BOOTS ON SYRIAN SOIL. they said something similar in viet-Nam , Cambodia , thi-Land , they lied then & will do so now . You might be suprised to know where many of the Poison Gas weapons were manufactured & originally sold to.

My platoon sargeant turned out to be one of the best human beings that anybody would ever want to meet. Looking back, i see what his main goal was. He wanted to make sure that we knew how to survive if we ever got in combat. His name was SFC. Leon McGee. never will forget it just like my serial number, RA 13 668 861. One of my favorite foods in the army for breakfast was S.O.S. Mighty tasty.

Me too Manureman , SOS was the best , the Army had for breakfast & oddly enough seldom served beans except pork & beans on Sunday evening at supper , the Navy ate very well when not at sea,

And you know what gets me fish. just think about our fore fathers who lived back in the 1770's. those redcoats come over here and thought they were going to rule us. just think of the hardships the people went thru to win our independence. in all kinds of weather and hardships. then, people who sits on their a__es now and claims to be americans and do not contribute one thing to our cause. they make me sick to my stomach.

This is a different generation,the veteran groups are hurting as the younger veterans are not joining.When i joined the American Legion 38 years ago we had over 13000 members.Today there are about 600 and we have to depend on social membership to survive.The VFW is even worse.

I would think most of the men in this group would have been in military during the Korean war or between it and Viet Nam.I had 8 years active duty and was out before Nam.

...Got extended during the cuban missle crisis thing. Viet nam was starting up when i got out. Guess they figured since i enlisted, not to bother with me anymore. But i thank GOD i wasn't in the middle of that mess. Knew a lot that was and they will never be the same. As the ole saying goes, war is hell. Just wish people appreciated more what the vetrans have done. Most people go around daily enjoying their freedoms that they have but fail to realize what it really cost. To all my brothers and sisters who have served, i salute you all. alex.
