I went to two of this promoter's parties and they were not true Haitian or French Caribbean Kompa/Zouk parties! I went to one party in July at M. White Lounge in Bridgeport. The event was advertised as Creole Affection and was advertised as playing kompa, zouk, reggae, and soca. Instead the event didn't play enough kompa or zouk and it played lots of crappy rap music! In late August, I went to another one of this promoter's parties....Island Night at East Side Cafe in Norwalk. The event was advertised as only playing Caribbean music: kompa, zouk, reggae, and soca. I went and got disappointed again! The DJ played no zouk and only a small amount of kompa! Too much rap/hip hop was played! I brought my Peruvian girlfriend to East Side Cafe to dance to the romantic sounds of zouk and we didn't get to do that! Instead there were people doing thug dancing to ratchet rap music! It was so ghetto in there, not a true kompa/zouk party! I felt very little French Caribbean vibe in there. Connecticut doesn't have real kompa/zouk parties! Now I know that if I want to go to a true zouk/kompa nightclub event, I have to go back to my native Massachusetts or to Rhode Island for that. There clubs like Tamboo Lounge in Brockton actually play large amounts of kompa and zouk with some reggae and African music and absolutely no crappy rap music!
