Yes, why is Pope Pancho Bergoglio -a.k.a. Pope Francis- acting so nice, understanding and proposing so many changes...when in his capacity as Archbishop of Buenos Aires didn't rise his voice against a government that did nothing to prevent young girls from being kidnapped, raped and killed...against the subhuman conditions resulting from the same government's corruption and oppression of those who dare to express their discomfort...or to use the power of his position during the military era in the country to prevent the kidnapping / torturing of several Jesuit monks?
Is Pope Pancho Bergoglio scared?

In Latin America it doesn't matter what title are you. You have to have money to have any sort of power, and even so they still are corrupt. They do these things out of desperation, selling people as slaves, human trafficking, kidnapping for ransom which everyone knows they won't live to see another day. I've seen it many times even in Puerto Rico where I'm from. When the government doesn't care about their people that's all they know how to do to survive. Even of someone tries to make a change they to get corrupted or killed.

ARE YOU GOING TO TELL ME YOU KNOW MORE THAN I DO ABOUT ARGENTINA? I AM ARGENTINIAN...
This "irregularities" are relatively new there...I lived there 29 years. Please, don't compare Pto. Rico and Argentina...are very different societies that only have the language in common.

I wasn't comparing Argentina with PR. Plus Argentina has been corrupted even before the Nazi's went there. Plus I was talking about Latin America in general not just one place in particular.

Also I know plenty of people from south America and many from Argentina and they tell me the same exact thing. You may have come from there, may have lived there for a long time but not all areas are alike.

Darling, your ignorance about my country is overwhelming...besides, my OP wasn't about Latin America but about about Argentina....and if you find a Nazi there I give you few bucks for a reward. Darling, we shipped the Nazis very quickly to Paraguay (Paraguayan's President, Stroessner, was of German origin) and to Brazil....and I bet you are getting mixed Argentina with Brazil...which is not surprising in an American.
Again, don't talk what you don't know.

Have you considered the possibility that the guy was covering his ass? Self-preservation!
He's just a man who fears death the same as any other man. I'm sure if he had publicly complained about the dictatorship back then, he would not be pope or anything else now.
Now, the man is in the highest position of the Roman Catholic Church, and he is tasked with re-invigorating the image of a religion that seems to be in decline. If the Catholic Church is to survive, it needs to create new connections and it needs to form stronger bonds with those that loosely associate themselves with the religion. Besides, if he does intend to make real changes (not just good PR), as Pope he has all sorts of freedoms, he did not have before, to speak out and move the masses... he can arm-twist other powerful clergy within the Vatican by having the common folk on his side. The Pope isn't just a religious leader, he's also a politician.

The dictatorship back then...which I live through... was not what most people think...it was not like living under Castro.
No, he is acting out of fear...Yes, the fear the Catholic religion is experiencing...the fear of losing the upper hand as a consequence of losing membership.

He is a demagogue -as all religious people are- and a populist.
