What exactly do you do that long? And are you doing 8 hours at one time or at different times?

It's not what others consider overtraining that you want to look at(people's bodies have different tolerances for training), it's what your own body would tell you is overtraining. A little over an hour per day of lifting doesn't sound like a lot, but if your training, diet, and sleep are right, are you making gains in strength and/or mass? If so, then you're probably not overtraining.

I can often spend 2-3 hours working out. In a week I workout 4-6 times and probably spend 12ish hours a week working out. But some of that is yoga or incline walking or light cycling. Not EVERY workout has to be intense

The best workout regimen should not only be effective, but efficient as well. The majority of people spend hours upon hours working out because they think they have to, to get results. But when you combine proper nutrition and calorie count, with the right workouts, you could get better results doing 30-60 minutes 3x a week.
Hell a client of mine dropped his body fat from 20% down to 8% in a year doing three 30 min workouts a week. Twice a week on Mon/Fri we would do full body circuit training with heavy free weight and body weight compound exercises. On Wed we did all out conditioning combining exercises like burpees, battle ropes, hill sprints, Prowler sled work, etc.. Not only did his body fat levels drop, but his max strength went up, and his cardiovascular fitness was better than when he did 10-12 hrs of cardio per week. But I want to stress that he was also religious with his nutrition and calorie intake. You can't outtrain shitty eating habbits.

I over trained my Biceps I wanted to try something different I would do 22 sets of Bicep work 3 times a week Wasn't taking in a lot of protein at the time. I got bigger and stronger but was not even as close to all the work I put in. I over trained them using all barbell and dumbbell exercises.

Triathlon training ----- 2x a day with one rest day a week which is my yoga day cardio in the mornings with a swim
Always I try to swim everyday but I go for endurance. I train about 4-6 hours a day that's including weights but I put down alot of cardio.
You can over train but it depends what your training for

Usually 3X a week and every 2 months or so I'll take a week off. I try to shock the muscles by varying weight amounts and reps. For a month I'll go heavy with less reps and the next month I'll go light with more reps, rotating the exercises. That's how you keep your muscles guessing. I'm happy I can still do it consistently at my age.

Depends on how hard you train as well as your personal training habits (training the same bodypart and not training others as efficient, too many hours dedicated to one or two bodyparts, etc.) If you start to feel fatigue that isn't natural soreness, it could be a sign of overtraining and if that's the case, then you need to take time off from the gym and let your body recuperate for a week and get back into it. Just my suggestion.....gamer

Whats more informative is WHAT you are doing in those hours, at what intensity.
couldnt have d=said it better!
also listen to your body, if your sore, REALLY sore, then you might be over doing it

You can't over train. Your body eventually gets used to the same routine and so you have to switch things up a bit to shock it. However you have to listen to your body and it will let you know when to stop by an injury.

Overtraining takes several weeks to take effect, however if you're eating enough you can capitalize and get bigger.
Its hard to tell, everyone is different...

Everyone's body temperament in different, so it really hard to tell. One person routine may be considered overtraining for one person while for another person it's perfectly normal, making it all relative....gamer

I have started being more serious about my protein intake each day. on my workout
days, I eat about 55 grams of protein. On my non workout days maybe 35 grams.
I have been told to consume around 80 grams / day every day.

I have plantar faciitis... no matter what I do, as soon as my foot starts shooting up sharp pain up my leg, I know I need to stop...
Even if I'm just doing stationary weight training, if I put too much pressure on my ankle or my foot too often in one session, pain often starts... then I know I overworked... time to stop...

Did you know that getting too many cortisone shots too close together can cause worse damage than what the original damage consisted of?
Did you know that physicians refuse to give too many cortisone shots over a short period of time?

Those look like vegan levels of protein for someone who lifts. You don't eat much meat? You might want to supplement with a protein powder.

It's three a year and the shots only mask the pain.Losing weight will alleviate the pain.@Vickie

There is no such thing as over training if you use proper micro/macro nutrition, preworkout supplementation, postworkout supplementation, recovery, proper workout scheduling, good spilts, and A.R.T.

Out of curiosity, how many days do you take off a week/month? My goal is to be as big as you someday if my shitty genetics will allow it.

I try not to take any off. I also do an 8 day split so everything gets well rested.
I have noticed that joint issues are the main culprit to needing rest days.
Main thing is to get other stuff i mentioned right. muscles are make in the kitchen and in the bedroom.

Indeed, joints are one of my biggest issues along with lack of sleep. I have horrible insomnia so I'm never well rested. I eat tons of protein and train super hard but with my joint and sleep issues it makes gaining size and strength a real b*tch.
