Ok, so we got our ferret from the previous owner about 2 months ago. They had him a month but ended up being allergic to him (so he was caged most of the time) they got him from the previous owner who got him for their kid, who quickly lost interest and he was primarily caged. When I got him he was only 7 months old. (Just giving a background on this poor lil guy)
So my question is about potty training....I cannot get him to use his box! I've put it in a corner, he moves it....I move it where he goes...he moves it. Now I KNOW he's smart enough to do this because he IS smart enough to go on the tile floor rather than carpet, but he will not do it. The vet suggested starting with a small room and not allowing hhim access to the other rooms until he mastered not having an accident in that room. He's been banished to the bathroom for over a week and still isn't breaking. ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did he use a litter box in his cage? Try putting some of his stool or urine in it to see if that helps. That is how I paper trained my dog.
It may not work for ferrets just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have tried that.... didn't seem to help. I seem to have more luck on puppy pads than his litter box, but I cant just keep cleaning up soiled puppy pads... plus they aren't very cheap lol.

Ive had ferrets for a long time. From just born to adopted from others diff ages raised ate played complete opp of each other and none have completely used their litter box. They would rather play in it. Ayla my youngest was started right away w her litter box and after a while just stopped. I tried small spaces leaving things they could smell in and out of litter box i even put their bed on bottom floor closer to box thinking they wouldnt close to where they sleep. And no luck. SO IF U FIGURE IT OUT please let me know lol thanks

How about trying to transition him from puppy pads to newspapers. Once you get him used to the newspapers, try shredding them and putting the shreds in the litter box, and then add litter until he's used to the litter?
This might work, gonna have to try it

I ended up buying cheaper adult bed pads and cutting them to size. Cvs actually has a large package for twenty dollars. Good luck

Haha good one...cause ferrets are related to rats....
Oh wait, actually...no they aren't at all as a matter of facts, at one point they were used to control the mice and rat population because they eat them. Next time keep ur uneducated opinion of my pet to yourself.

Ferrets arep members of the weasel family.They are related to meerksts,skunks,etc.Rats ate rodents.Either of which are pretty cool friends.
