Ah ... the loins were succulent, and juicy delights flowed forth for the whetting of the appetite. The smooth, white potatoes glistened with gathering oils of delight, while the carrots gave off their sweet taste of honey.
Following dinner with Mom and dad, we were off on our first date together.
Driving his uncle's borrowed logging truck, my date helped to mount; then he eagerly climbed aboard and began to drive.
Bouncing up and down on the bench seat of the ton truck got some getting used to but soon we were joyfully in sync with the rhythm as we jostled against each other on the well-sprung leatherette seat.
As we gazed lovingly into each others eyes ... with a hope for the future held within... he said, gently,... "I have loved before, but never quite like this." Smiling, I took his hand and kissed his palm before replying, "I am new to this sort of thing but I think I like it." He kissed my throbbing lips as his hand reached for the ignition key.
Reaching for the three-speed shifter in the floor, my date tried to shift the vehicle into reverse but the stick shift wouldn't move. It was if it had a mind of its own.
Realizing what had happened I got out of the truck and popped opened the hood. Stretching my hand down to grasp the linkage rod, I yanked as hard as I could and was rewarded with the gears slipping back into alignment.
Moral: When on a first date be prepared for anything.
