There is no danger of a melt-down like the Chernobyl reactor.
It produces minimal radioactive waste.
It can burn plutonium waste from traditional nuclear reactors.
It is not suitable for the production of weapon grade materials.
Global thorium reserves could cover our energy needs for thousands of years.

A town of 1,000 could pool $250K for the reactor at the cost of $250 each, then pay $400/year collectively, or $0.40/year each for fuel and maintenance. These reactors could be built by the thousands, further driving down manufacturing costs.

All that being said... you know how the powers to be are... if there's a way to poisons us, they will... in low does Thorium is safe... however in large quantities can cause many problem for people... they usually die of heavy metal poisoning... so, this probably will be the next candidate to spay the environment or toxify our drinking water with...

I personally would rather see electricity being generated by other forces rather than that of Nuclear... be it Magnetic or Zero Point... both of which are very real and inexpensive... the problem is... you just can't put a meter on it... so I doubt very much we will ever see these wonderful devices with the general populace... Bummer!!!

Thorium on the other hand can be metered and just might stand a chance... Thorium truly is a much better solution than are current reactors....

Zero Point

Thorium is a theory and as a theory has to be independently proved before there will ever be any consideration for thorium phasing out and replacing the current nuclear reactors. jmho

Theory for the US maybe... however, Norway is currently using Thorium in a conventional reactor right now... and China is doing extensive research into Thorium...

My point exactly --- theory --- not tested for the US market ... and still being tested elsewhere.

When will federal government bureaucracy get out of things and leave stuff alone? The need for changing things, however unnecessary, is invented by utopian dreamers and various activists intent on controlling everyone else with fantasies. Crony capitalism is alive and well through government control and intervention. The government does a poor job picking winners and losers in terms of public service. The only winners are the cronies connected to it. Solyndra and basically eliminating the use of coal are fine examples. Solyndra cost the tax payers half a billion while lining to pockets of a few Obama connected executives, and the rush to eliminate coal has cost tens of thousands of jobs for coal miners when we can least afford it.

When "alternate" or better forms of energy become available they will be embraced naturally, no differently than looking for bargains when people shop for just about anything. Using government to force one unproven form or another doesn't do anything but fill the pockets of those well enough connected to exploit them. Name it, wind, solar, nuclear, etc., it doesn't matter. Someday some genius will make a breakthrough that works. It will supplant everything else naturally. Until something is proven it isn't worth considering.
