Just kinda wondering, anyone familiar with Alexandria or could tell me much about the city? I'm looking to move back to Louisiana sometime within the next year or so. I know New Orleans, I know all the way from Slidel over to Hammond and Ponchatoula and over to Baton Rouge. My grandparents built their first home in Mandeville 40+ years ago. I remember all the areas that were effected most by some of the past hurricanes. I'm not sure about Lafayette, never really went there. Basically I'm looking to be in an area where its fairly inexpensive, real estate wise, (Ohio's property taxes and all around cost of living has been a nightmare and the Midwest is getting worse). Storms are obviously the concern, i 'm looking to really be back in an area where I don't have to worry about evacuation, but I don't want to be so far from Baton Rouge and New Orleans either. So what is Alexandria like? I have other ideas I.e. fishing camp like around Houma, but first I need to start some where. Actually I'd be curious to know about both Lafayette and Alexandria?

I don't know much about Alexandria. Just drove through it a few times.
But Lafayette is nice. I always enjoyed the small town/big town feel to it. Everyone is really nice there. One of my best friends lives there & he loves it..
I'd stay away from Baton Rouge because that is turning into ghetto New Orleans.
Good luck to you.

Lafayette is great. Wonderful and friendly people. Alexandria is a redneck ghetto.
