autumnsmile Counce, TN 53, joined May. 2009	...Watch this..."NO!"....Im getting better at it!Im overwhelmed with the number of my foster darlings.No adoptions,More kittens.Singleton puppy 15 days old.I hated myself yesturday when I was greatful to wake up and find the kitten I was dropper feeding had died...I think he was maybe as deformed outside as in. Our girl now was brought up from Mississippi going threw 4 families in 1 week. Sadie was so stressed and now is realizing we are her forever home. She's got 2 rescued kitty sisters and 2 adopted rats.

dead_end Greenville, SC 32, joined Feb. 2014	My dog is a rescue...found her in a gas station parking lot one night hiding behind the dumpster. She was dirty, covered in fleas and scared of her own shadow. Poor little gal was freaking out the whole way home. Got her cleaned up, fleas taken care of and when I took her to the vet I discovered that her previous "owner" already had her shots taken care of and had her spayed. These days she's a very happy, very spoiled little mutt who never leaves my side if I'm home.

I very much want to volunteer for socialization work with dogs or just to relieve their boredom and get them outside but I cannot commit to a schedule due to circumstances. NO ONE wants to take my help on those grounds and I don't know why not. Would there ever be a time when every dog had someone to walk him and socialize him so that random but sincere dedicated help would be excess, that there would ever be a time when these dogs would not appreciate one on one attention? I have 3 adopted babies at home (4-legged ones)? I have noticed that there are some in rescue who get into these head games and power trips. I volunteer for a no-kill cat shelter and we welcome people who can just come in and sit with cats who need extra attention. We have a few older men and ladies who come in when they have the time. I would think they'd be happy to have someone come in to socialize. I would love to help but I have 3 cats, not a big enough house for dogs and I work all day so it wouldn't be fair to them. Thanks for doing what you do though!

51percent Ogden, UT 44, joined Sep. 2013	I have been doing some sort of volunteer work since I was 15. Started by raising seeing eye dogs for the blind. You had them for a year. Did house breaking, basic training and socialization. Then turned them over for evaluation and further training. When I started my own grooming business, I would go into the local shelters once a week and pick a few of the dogs who would benefit the most from grooming and would get them cleaned up. I have fostered a many pup and even litters of 'bottle baby' kittens for local shelters. I lost my house in the divorce, I couldnt afford it by myself, and have been stuck in this dang rental for over a year now... Maybe I should start grooming again since I cant foster.

Amazing how happy a dog penned in a home for years is to see it's first covey of birds rise........and a couple fall back to the earth!

rdnkgentlmn Pioneer, OH 54, joined Aug. 2014	I rescued my baby girl from a abusive owner. it took me about a years to gain her trust. but after ghat she was so friendly to me and others it amazed me. nobody was a stranger to her. she was a purebreed Bloodhound. I had her for over. three years. I recently moved to a new area and one day she slipped her collar off. and we searched for anout 5 hrs for her. ai found her along the road. i think q truck hit her. she was all i had and I'm still trying to get over it. its like loosing a child. my Daisy Mae

msreesi Stout, OH 53, joined Jul. 2014	I remember Daisy Mae. She was a beautiful dog. I'm so sorry for your loss. The white dog on my profile was a rescue as well. Her owners moved off and left her behind, tied in the yard of the house they vacated. The landlord of the property called animal control, who came and picked her up. I saw her at the pound one day when I stopped in. I had went into the office, and had not seen that dog at all (I was parked by her pen, so she was hidden back in the dog box), and when I came out, she was by the fence wagging her stubby tail at me, so I went back in to ask about her, and found out her story. Because the owners didn't surrender her, there was a holding period before she was available for adoption, so I asked if I could foster her through the holding period, and was able to bring her home. She was filthy and covered in fleas, and I called the vet and he worked her in, so she had a complete health check and vaccinations before coming around my other dogs. After a bath she looked like a different dog altogether. After the holding period, I adopted her. That was two years ago. She's my baby, as they all are. I think some people are just born to rescue animals. It's their calling, and they have a special affinity with animals. JMHO

Sounds like the owners didn't first study up on the breed, and exercise the dogs. Any dog can make a good pet/house pet, but high energy working and sporting dogs are unhappy and bored, which causes behavioral problems if not given lots and lots of exercise. Sounds like they get plenty of exercise with you.

fiftysome Concord, MI 55, joined May. 2014	HI- A week ago today I adopted a rescue Boston Terrier. For over three weeks I would see him on the Michigan Boston terrier Rescue site... I would call to find out if he was still available, only to be told he had been adopted ! Three weeks later- he showed up again ! So I called to find out what the heck was going on-especially since I was continually told he was not available. Each time he was adopted- he would get returned ! Not for bad behavior, but because he wasn't housebroken. he is one year old, was surrendered by a hoarder along with other Boston's and other pets. After one week...house breaking is going well, and I even work away from home. He is the sweetest buddy. I have raised Boston terriers since the early 80's...he is just like my others were- great personality and all. Turns out this little guy was adopted (5) times and returned ! God had a plan for the two of us.
