You want to be a super hero? here's a story for you.
Another regular day in....
4am
A: "Where are you? plz come get me, I got kicked out"
B: " I'm comming, where r u? Geez your a problem. U there?"
A: " Hurry. There are 2 guys trying to pick my basement door open and break in. They are trying to hurt me "
B: Stay there I'm comming
I'm here, how many ppl outside?
A: Coming wait.
B: There are 2 men outside your gate, I'm right outside. Wait.
A: Come.
At this point I walked around the back of the building while veiwing two grown adult black males trying to pick open the lock on the basement door with a pair of bolt cutters. I seeked to walk by them with a phone at hand looking straight into their eyes. I ran around the back of the building and climbed over the fence to get to the back side of the building and waited at the other side corner of the door they attempted to pick. I gave her instructions to wait until the two men left and told her to come out.
This was only the beginning of the situation. I found out that night that the girl was a 21 yr old runnaway from home from another state. She ended up in the streets of brooklyn NYC living in the basement of a project ghetto style building (Brownsville area), damp, wet with a little room inside a dirty basement, building. The owner of the building is a drug dealer that owns a group of individuals that work under him. He also has this poor girl living in the basement as a street prostitute, gives her drug, promote her body on underground internet websites then steals the money she makes and only leaves her a few dollars to survive. I was told by the girl that he has weapons inside the house and he is violent.
I took the girl into my home so she can spend the night and get situated. I helped her find a place to stay with her friend and time to contact her parents to get back home to where she lives.
Right after I got this girl a place to stay for the day I went to the police station in hopes of finding some way to help this girl. According to them, If you are 18+ then it is your choice to be a prostitute and the police will not help in this case in any investigation or help find her parents. They said that prostitutes is a job by choice and there is no way they can help. The person has to seek help by her own means through charities, programs and rehabilitation and most likely this will not help because the prostitute realizes that she has no other job skills, no school experience. They will end up back into the streets, back into the arms of their pimps that can provide them a place to stay, some drugs to get by and an occupation. He told me If I want to help her then I should get her a bus ticket as far away from NY as possible, away from her pimp and through some programs that can help her get to her own feet.
Unlike some people that fall into a victim of prostitution, this girl has some hope to get her life in order. She has a family and support in another state, she can can back to school and get her life on track. She is not a heavy drug user, not an addict. she smokes cigerettes and drinks occasionally. This girl grew up in a fairly wealthy family in a different state and unfortunately, she came to NYC and ended up in the wrong parts of the street. People took advantage of her trusting heart, stole her money, left her broke and needy for a shelter, food and a way to live. The wrong people took her in to abuse her.
Here I am, a 22 year old college graduate that only makes 60$ a week tutoring a 6th grade student. Where I used this money before to pay for an MMA gym membership. At this point in my life, looking for a job so I can get situated.
But decided to go out of my way to even pay for this lady's ticket home and even escort her there.
