That's very true. However I get really upset that they say it's the breed not the way they're raised. More blame should be put on the owners than the dog.

true to some degree breeding
Selectively will put the right
genes in a dog to make it more
aggressive just like roosters
you do not teach them to fight
you breed them to fight then
You choose the ones with heart and breed them back.

I hung out with two pits and
a chighaugha today. One pit was sweet but I have known her for a while. the other was a guard type animal. And the ankle biter was growling at both of them lol

.
A dog is a reflection of its owner. If the dog is out of control look to the one who's responsible for the character of the dog - the one who allows it to feel safe and loved or the one who taught it that the world is a dangerous place full of violent people who don't give a damn about you and who are mean and nasty inside and out.

Sadly, the "pounds", shelters, etc. are full of dogs of all types and pit bulls are among the most prevalent, most likely because many of those attracted to this breed of dog falsely believe it should be a macho/status symbol of what bad dudes they are so they don't train it or get it spayed or neutered.

Bit Bulls can be lovely pets or they can terrorize the neighborhood, depends on the PERSON in charge.

Thanks for your opinions! Appreciate everyone keeping it nice. I do have a very well behaved pit. She loves everyone she meets. Has a special touch with small children. It's so sad that they have such a bad reputation to so many folks. They have such intense love. It's such a wonderful thing. Please don't judge all of them for being aggressive . They aren't.

Think my sweetest dog was the only Pit I ever had Catch a pig and shred a coon into little pieces but gentle and protective around the grandkids. That being said I just did an eviction on a tenant that refused to get rid of one she moved into one of my houses. I do not let any big doges in anymore as they are to much of a liability. Buy a home if you want one!!

I don't know, but it seems when a dog bites you, it will bite once and be done, but pits seem to go out of their mind with frenzy and keep attacking.......

Mine is a pit mix the other half is black lab. She was abused and I got her at 6 months old and you would never know she was abused. She loves people for the most part but occassionally meets men she doesn't like and will try to bite if they get near me.

I have a blue nose pit female. She is the second best dog I have ever owned.

Unfortunately, these dogs get a bad rep because of the people who fight them and train them to do so. The focus should be on those people whom decide that it is ok to treat these dogs as money making machines. They force them to live in deplorable conditions and mistreat them.

The breed itself without these people intervening would not have such a stigma associated with it under normal conditions.

I used to have a pitbull He was a stray. He was the most loving dog you would want to have. I know that genes play a role in how a dog turns out but I tend to think that if you take the time with any dog they will be the dog that you want them to be. Right now I have a German Sheppard. She is a very Loving and playful. A lot of people are afraid of big dogs I have never had problems with big dogs for me it has been the ankle biters. But I Like all dogs.

I say to Pit Bulls

My all time favorite breed is a c*cker spaniel

My brother and I both have Pitts. They are very loving and playful as well as protective, but they have never attacked anybody. We won't allow them to be violent.

No matter the breed a dog acts as it is trained or in many cases not been trained at all.

Yay all the way.

But that's true with any breed. I have a neighbor that just swears that Huskies are mean. They had a half Husky half Lab (looked like a red Husky only it's ears were down) and they didn't work with it, and they also didn't have it neutered, and when it pinned one of their other "intact" dogs, as dogs will do, they deemed him mean and got rid of him.
She gets angry and gives me a rough time whenever I say something about my Husky.

I've worked with mine since he was a tiny pup. I also had him neutered. At 10 months, he's still a pup, but very cute and funny. He's learned to "high five" now. Sits, speaks on command, and he and I have sing alongs.

It's the owner, not the breed

Loving dogs... Sure. They can be. However, there is also a criminal element (dog fighting) associated with them that must be stopped. It's no secret that these dogs a bred for this purpose, so I am ok with them being illegal in my community.

Laws aren't written because responsible people need to be governed, they are written to protect citizens from irresponsible people who think they are entitled to endanger the public.

What is so sad about morons who think these dogs make them look tough, is that a well bred APBT, is not going to be human aggressive. Are they animal aggressive? Can be, that is genetic. But HA is a major no no in the breed.

Unfortunately, the general public doesn't know or understanding this.

Never spent time around a Pit, just hasn't happened, no reason. My neighbor I didn't know well. She was an older lady and had a Pit. She wiped his butt after he pooped, treated him like a baby. He never caused any trouble in the neighborhood.
I did read that part of the ipulse to be aggressive and to hold on when biting does has some to do with nuerological traits. Personally, I agree most any pet shown love and taught well, usually is a good dog around others. My area now makes owners of certain breeds have insurance on the dogs or no license. Known besides a Pit Bull Rotwillers are on list, not sure which other breed.
I I worked with a few tigers and a bear when I was younger, I didn't show fear and they were good with me. Love all animals on 4 paws. Petey fron the TV "The little Rascal's" was a pit and the show was all children. Showing my age .

Huge Yay!! I grew up around pit bulls and have owned quite a few over the years. My current boy is a red nose I got at 4 weeks old to save him from going to the local kill shelter. This breed has been so maligned and mistreated it is pitiful.(no pun intended)

Did you know that years ago in England(where they are now banned) pit bulls were known as the 'nanny dog' because they were so good with children. And that one of the first military dogs was a pit named Sgt.Stubby who was highly decorated in WW1...

This breed has been around a long time and it is greedy cruel humans who have tried to make them aggressive killers. Yet for the most part they remain big loving goofballs who still love humans even after enduring horrendous torture.

A friend of mine had one that was a real sweet heart. His three year old grand daughter would drag it around by its collar. My 7# yorkie-poo was fine around it and even teased it by jumping up and bouncing off of it's sholder. I would never trust a strange one though because you just don't know how they have been trained or treated.
