you don't need to replace the carpet...you said its been shampooed...if anything, saturate the area with white vinegar...Let it sit... then blot up, when vinegar dries u can't smell the vinegar, vinegar is a natural deodorizer & kills odor.

I did it when my 16yr old Border collie had an accident on carpet & I had just gotten a 6month old Border collie...he didn't re-mark the spot.

This is true. Used it regularly when I had dogs coming through my house for grooming. No lingering odors and no stains. I used 1 part vinegar to 1 part water and kept a bottle ready at all times.
