I'm so clueless when it comes to weight loss or dieting. I need to lose and tone up. Not interested in any surgeries of any sort. Can someone tell where to start as a beginner? And how to maintain the weight afterwards.

You're going to have to tell us more information.
Lifestyle habits. Eating habits. Current activity level.
Honestly, as much as I do enjoy giving advice, your best first step would be a doctor, someone to make sure there are no underlying health issues that could flare up in a lifestyle change, someone who can properly assess your current situation and outline a regimen for you to follow.
Basics to consider.
Cut out all 'liquid calories' aka sodas and sweetened teas and sugary coffees. Drink water. And lots of it. If your body isn't hydrated you are only cutting your weight loss efforts in half. Your body can't work properly if it's dehydrated.
Cut out all processed foods or eliminate as close to nil as possible. Potato chips, candies, cookies, etc.
I try to make half of each meal fruits/veggies. They are lower in calories than most the other things you could put in your plate. They're chock full of nutrients and because they're fibrous they'll keep you fuller, longer.
Walk. It's amazing how much simply adding a couple miles every day or more even will help.

There are sooo many ways to loose and tone up, first you gotta want it bad enough, I understand your frustration at times when you want to quit, ive been there, I was always the chubby kid at school who got picked on, and it isnt fun, some people where just born with bad genetics, me being one of them but can always be beat by hard work and dedication.
So what you should see frist is, wgat is your goal? Trying to thin up? Loose weight? Gain muscle? What kind if body are you? Meso, ecto, endomorph?
Avoid foods like fast food, dont eat out as much, and when you do, make a better choice, eat a turkey burger instead of regular burger, as for condiments on the side, avoid pop and stick with water, avoid beer and stick with clear liquor with no flavor and tonic, I drink stoli and soda with kime and lemon.
many people think that by eating healthy you gotta eat boring, but it isnt...
so stick with a very low carb diet and add protein as it helps burn fat, only consume carbs before a work out, sspread your meals through out the day, with smaller portions DO NOT STARB YOURSELF!!!
and least, try to follow someone who you admire, like a fitness athlete that you like, I follow Steve Cook, hes not a meat head yet he knows what he talks about.
Hope it helps, even tho I dont know what your goal is, but ive been there, and now I am hapoy where im at with my body, and trust me youll feel alot better after you do it for so long.

increase activities and decrease intake. I enjoy dancing... so dancing at home... I got a billy blast taebo? I modified it to what I could do. Then increased as I could.. decrease intake.. easiest is to cut down on snacks and portions.. I lost 50 pounds.. I also power walked with my grandson...

It's more than reducing Calories.
Several years ago, I weight 280 and had trouble mantaining prolonged physical activities.
Now I'm 200, and I've been at 200 for 3 years.
Blood tests show my HDLs LDLs and all that to be at perfect levels.
I has on high blood pressure meds, and had to come off of them because my heart was starting to work better... and the meds were making my pulse too weak at that point.
I started out adjusting my diet. I top eating fast food. I drastically cut down on "processed food" I cut out sugary foods.
I then balanced my diet. and watched my calorie intake.
After a month of doing that, I had lost 40 pounds.
Then I started working out. 10 minutes cardio at first. It killed me.
At this point, I can run 4 miles every day at about a mile every 8 minutes. It's not the fastest, or the best... but it is something.
I would say it's in the realm of every day, and not in the realm of super athlete. Which takes a MASSIVE amount of maintenance and caloric intake.
So, the best answer is, if you want to maintan it, do it one step at a time, and don't kill yourself... account for the fact that you are human, and that you will have moments of weakness.

If you want too, eat a little meat / chicken or fish high in Omega oils 3-6-9 ( salmon )
100% Whole Grains cooked, ( brown rice, millet, Kqinwa, Amaranth, oats, rey
100% whole grain breads, more nutrients/minerals, fiber cleans the gut,
absorbs intestinal toxins for elimination.
NO fatty pork, bacon, ham...
Use real 100% Butter not Margarine, Or Natural 100% Almond, Cashew, sesame seed butter
Get off most dairy, cheese, sour cream, milk, etc. << fattening
NO Chips, snakes, pastry, cakes, candies, fluff, air food, etc.
Now read this..... Vegetables, plants, herbs are you best friend !

I can tell you what is working for me. 1st: a little background. At around the Age of 30, I was told I was diabetic. So I had to do something. At that point I weighed just Over 350lbs. All my life from early childhood to adult, There werent many sit down meals at my house. It was like, if you want food, go fix it and as I said this carried into adult hood. As a result my eating habbits were awful. *important*-- diets dont work. So get that out of your head, if you want long tearm results.
Ok here is what I did. The first thing I had to do was to learn how to eat 3 meals a day and no snacking all day long. This was very hard to do. Infact it took me about 3 years before I realized that I was doing this without having to make myself. Now this is going to sound stupid but like I said, it works for me. The next step for me was, I stopped eating the 3 meals a day and started eating only when I was truely hungry. Also stop eating before you feel to full. All the while my wieght was dropping a little at a time. Sometimes more loss than others. Just remember, this is a life change, not a race.
Here are a couple of hints that I found helped me.
1) dont weigh yourself very often, maybe every 3rd month
2) if you have a craving, dont deny yourself. This is about choices. For instance. If you want a piece of cake. You can have it, but you trade of lunch or dinner. You have to decide if you really want the cake. Or if you want a cheese burger, you can have it. You just cant have the fries and shake to go with it. Your getting what I mean.
This is a slow process and remember, you cant lose wieght if your never at least a little hungry..... to wrap it up
I wieghed just over 350lbs when I started my journey, last week at the Dr's office I wieghed 195lbs and Ive been around 200lbs for about 10 years now. I hope to get to 180, one day.
One last thing, by going slowly your body has time to adjust. I do not have any need for surgery to remove all the loose skin because it shrunk back as I did.
GOODLUCK FINDING WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. I hope this will help you. By the way, Im 53 years old and I am in much better shape now

Drink plenty of water, No soda pop. aMke sure you do some form of physical exercise for at least 40 minutes per day. Start measuring your food. Cut down on portion sizes. Make a food journal...Use workout DVD's. Go for walks and having a walking partner makes the time pass.
