I just want to inform you that I am proud to be part of the WWP Dragon Boat Team in Denver, CO. My team was assembled 6 or 7 weeks ago. This past weekend, we've competed at the 14th Annual Dragon Boat Festival. Our oldest paddler was a 72 year old army vet and majority of us are either somehow service connected; missing limbs, nerve damaged, TBI, PTSD, etc. We're pretty much broke d*cks to begin with. The first heat for the 250 meter race we went up against the state's #1 team, we've made them worried because we were half a boat length ahead of them and we've kept that pace but slowed down because we thought we crossed the finish line when it was only the 150 meter mark. The #1 team passed us and we started back up again as quickly as possible and fell behind another team so we came in third. #1 team beat us by 5 seconds. During day 1, we've made it to the 250 meter finals and lost in 4th. Our fastest time was 1:18 flat, the #1 state team got 1:13.5. Somehow by luck or a miracle, the #1 state team was beaten by their sister team "Team PASCO" during the finals.
Day 2 for the 500 meter race, it was back to back and during the first heat my team had only 18 paddlers compared to the elite teams who had 20. We've went up against Team PASCO and managed to keep up with them so we came in second. They beat us by .7 secs and they were panicking on the 250 meter mark because we've heard their drums beating twice or trice within a short interval. Once again, we've made it to the finals and won 3rd. The Chief Stern had made a remark that his other sterns wanted to be with my team because we worked in unison and was like a family. In the end, we've inspired the crowd as well gain a lot of respect from other teams. Not bad for a bunch of broke d*cks huh? LOL
