I am almost 53. I read in a health & fitness article the benefits of dropping ones
body weight. I have come to realize that I am never going to be 235lbs!
so for my arms chest and back, I am going to lower weights and more reps.
It is taking me just too long to recover between workouts. Also by going down in weight, I can better manage my bellyfat. my plan is to go from my current 227 down to 212 and go from there.

- How much sleep do you get per night? Shoot for 7-9hrs per night.
- How much water are you drinking per day? A gallon a day is a good goal.
- How much stress do you have in your life? Stress can have a negative effect on the body and body fat levels.
- Are you eating enough to match how much you workout and what's your diet like? Multiply your body weight times 16. Then subtract 500. This is how much you should take in per day to lose fat. Chances are you aren't eating enough.
If it's taking you too long to recover, it probably has more to do with one or more of the following being off.

I suffer from lower back and foot issues. also I want to increase my cardio.
by getting smaller, I will be able to finally lose my gut.
Both my dad and grandfather were around 205 range. I am 231lbs.

It seems the older people get the more beneficial to weight loss having cardio in your daily routine is. Even if it's just walking. You're leaps and bounds ahead with having strength and muscle, but how many times a week are you actually able to work out? You mention long recovery times. Is this 2-3 days in between workout days?

It's true, you're not going to lose much gut without losing a significant amount of weight.
Just make sure you maintain your current strength levels so that you keep the muscle that you have as you're losing weight.

Focus on HIT Training. With HIT Training, the reps that you do can potentially keep your strength gains and possibly add more to your strength with the right weight , add tone to your body, and help you lose weight. And from this post, it sounds like you have been doing HIT training. It is just a matter of your personal diet and how much you sleep due to your metabolism......gamer

I bought a two year membership to Gold's Gym recently. The guy they assigned me to get me started out measured me and we talked a lot. We discussed food I ate. I related how I actually lost MORE weight when I was eating pineapple cake last time I had a membership and was working out a lot. He told me that when you are on a a workout regimen, you have to eat after the work out and get enough calories and protein those days you are working out. Otherwise, the body breaks down the muscle you already have. So, if you are not getting enough calories and protein, you can't really build that muscle that actually does the fat burning.
You need to eat pretty soon after the workout for it to actually work FOR you. Don't skip meals before working out. Eat light and often enough to keep the body from stealing from the organs and muscles. In other words, heavy meals are not in your best interest. Also, be careful about the junk they put in a lot of the supplement for weight loss and muscle building. Check out the blood type diet as well. That seems to make a huge difference for a lot of people. If you are serious about your health, it can make a huge difference. I hope this helps.
