Commitment to spending time with each other.. but not so much time together that you end up feeling smothered.
Good attitude. Lots of fun when you do see each other.
Accepting of each others limitations.
A lack of honesty and loyalty, however, can drain your enthusiasm to see someone.
YET... If you have already made a commitment to see someone and you are accepting of their limitations then sometimes you can move past these issues because you have a good attitude and you genuinely like each other.

So true. Love blinds us. And people too often pick the wrong mate. I think that's the main problem. Those things you mention are very important but being with the wrong person will only bring chaos and lead to breakups.

perfect...and neither are they.....
being selfless....and accepting of the
other pperson's flaws as well as attributes....
And being able to get over the hump
of having the relationship become long term....and deciding that this person is the one for you....and discontinuing your search.
Being loving of another....instead of selfish gain.
So it boils down to how much you really love each other...
Do you love each other...flaws and all.....
Or just spending time together....until something better comes along....

While that could work, both people have to be on the same page.
No relationship will last if one of the people in the relationship is not honest, loyal, and trustworthy.

There are plenty of young women who are so taken by their feelings, and their hormones, that they give themselves away prematurely. They then wonder, and seek to answer the question;
If he had sex with me does that mean he loves me?
The answer to that question is no,
having sex with you does not mean that he loves you. It means that he lusts you, and you lusted him, you had sexual feelings, not love feelings.
Unfortunately, our society and it's cultural teachings associate sex to love, when in reality, sex outside of the context of marriage is generally lust driven. It's generally a self absorbing physical desire to selfishly meet ones own physical mania.
Sex alone does not meet loves criteria, because love is not self seeking.
- Love feelings follow love actions,
- sexual feelings often follow reactions to lust driven desires.
We are all human, and we all experience the desires of our flesh, however true love feelings are associated with a deep relational bonding, not just physical intimacy

I think it's ultimately obvious, that everything else, hinges on one main thing:
that all members actually WANT the relationship itself.
It's the reason why someone IS loyal and honest, and what makes the sex better than it would be otherwise.
Every relationship based instead, on a list of specifications, ultimately fails, as soon as either a new specification arises, or one or the other person thinks they can get a better deal.
The relationships MOST likely to fail, are those based on mutual exchange of goods and services alone, with each person constantly eyeing the totals board, jealously guarding their profits and losses.

What I consider just one of the more important compatibilities two people should have and/or seek.
The compatibility of similar character....but surely thats not enough to make a relation last.
I think first and foremost, there has to be """"real love""" from both people involved.
and then there are some important compatibilities.
1) Capacity to love and show it....meaning they are similar in how they view love, the depth in how they fall in love and how they show it....if they are much different...there will be problems.
2) sex....its best they are similar in that too.
3) Character...we already talked about that.
4) enough interest that are similar...but it doesn't mean everything.
After that, the little differences are not that important and thats where Caring, Understanding and Acceptance comes to play and is needed too....because there is no one perfect for us....and its better we realise this.
Then, since there will always be in a relation...the roller coaster sydrome...the ups and down in a relation....not everything will be rosey all the time.....so you need the ability to stick with things and together on the down sides too.
And I think continuing to prioritize each other above all else....that means the job, the family and the kids.
Do all that and it stands about the best chance of surviving you can have.
