How much memory do you have there?
http://www.crucial.com/ has a memory scan tool that determines what model system you have, what kind of memory and the configuration you currently have and then what is available.
Start there (crucial), click on "Download Scanner". Run the program
Either print or save the recommendations.
I would recommend at least 4gb. It depends on what you are doing with the system.
Also, if your system is fairly new, it may be preloaded with a bunch of resident crap that you don't need.
Download and run this : PCDecrapifier
