I'm thinking of buying a Kindle reader but I know nothing about them and I'm not the best at electronics. Can someone help me with what I should look into so I don't get in over my head?

I have a nook color...I like it. Use to take my laptop on trips out of town to check e-mail for work schedules and so on.
It's about 4 yrs old, I am sure that are better now.
My only concern is I like to sit outside a lot and read, but I can't see the screen in the sun. Have to be in shade.

But, if it was to crash, I would buy another. But the I-pad will do the same and more!!!

Hope this helps ya.

My Mother uses a kindle reader all the time and she just had her 100th birthday so you will do just fine with one I'm shure.

I have a pre Fire Kindle that is only good for reding and use it quite a bit. It has very long battery life which is nice. I also have an I Pad that I use for many things and also for reading.

I have a Kindle Paperwhite. It has a white screen whereas the earlier generation Kindle has a greyer one. The white screen is more like the page of a book. I have about 50 books stored on it and paid for only one. There are ways and means of acquiring books without crossing anyone's palm with silver. The best books for ease of reading are in a format called EPUB, which can be converted into MOBI using a free dwnload programme called Calibre. Kindles can also display PDF documents, but this format isn't quite as user friendly. I've found viewing in "landscape" mode works better with PDF's. I kind of fancy a larger tablet for handling PDF's but haven't yet taken the plunge and bought one.

I know it's not exactly what you asked about, but the Kindle reader I have is actually a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 that I got when Microsoft dropped support on their Windows XP.

I'm not crazy about it for social media, the cursor "jumps" and messes up my posts, especially on this site, but it has the Kindle app, as well as a camera, calculator, and memo, and lots of other apps.

It's really been handy for my needs, especially for shopping (memo is awesome for storing shopping lists), or reading while waiting at Dr appointments. The camera is awesome, too. I love it. I love Kindle. No more books cluttering up the house.

Tileman, if you get a kindle reader, read my book "Asleep at the Wheel" by me, G.P. It's about the Marine Corps.
