I often wondered about what though. Obviously they do! Nothing can sleep that much do what they do while sleeping and not be dreaming. Anyone that owns a dog knows what I'm talking about. So and this is a stretch I know they must be rehashing their experiences and dreaming about them. So if any animal dreams is that not a form of intelligence? After all to dream is to think IMO

My Border collie dreams, you can tell he's running with all his paws in 'run' mode. He barks in his sleep, growls, whiskers twitch, his ears will raise up & down. Its funny to watch & listen to him. In his dreams he's prob chasing a pesky squirrel, working cows, going after crows etc...but he's definately having a good time. He also makes some lil chirp sounding barks & various noises, sometimes I'll lean down real quiet & tickle the fur that sticks out between his toes & he really goes running in place. Everything speeds up...whee

I've noticed the running dreams to! And maybe its a stretch to think dogs think but isn't dreaming a sort of thought process? I had a jack Russell terrier loved that dog. He would have these intense running dreams and quite barks while that was going on. What was he chasing I often wondered?

After viewing my BC & other dogs I've had I def think they do have a thought process. Maybe dreaming of a squirrel that got away etc... Sometimes when my Border collie is dreaming he'll growl & bare his teeth slightly so I know he's after something in his dream. Sometimes he'll make suckling sounds when sleeping so I think he's dreaming of his puppyhood.
Most of time when his paws are running, lips twitching, growling, lil barks, he's thinking.

We have been living with dogs not cats LOL in one form or another for maybe 40 thousand years maybe more. Is it out of the realm of possibilities that they are learning more about us? Maybe even how to gauge our feelings and emotions? Evolving to be more intelligent? Using more of their brains?

It is obvious to me that my dogs dream. And, dogs are very intelligent, much more than people give them credit for.

Yes they do. I have watched my dog run in her sleep. Hope she was happy and chasing a toy, not something chasing her. It was funny, last night she was barking in her sleep. That was a new one.

They certainly do!
They you, snarl, little paws skitter around etc etc etc.......and don't reach out to disturb a slumbering dog ... that sudden surprise could cost one an arm.
