A lot of the ladies tell me they receive unwanted and insulting personal messages in their inboxes and would like to stop them but going invisible makes them appear to be trolls to other posters.
There could be a setting for the inboxes that would allow only messages from people on their friends list to get through.
This would let posters to screen their messages and if an unknown person wanted to message they would have to send a friends request first.
The programing for this would simple to implement.

I'm all for that suggestion.
I'm on my one of many descriptions on my profile. It's pretty to the point about such things.
And I still get unwanted pics and proposals of the embarrassing kind
One of those features would certainly weed those types of messages out. Unless someone on your friends list turns on you. But then you can kick em to the curb ,if that's the case.

OP ... The ladies who are receiving these types of messages have several options:
1. Do not open messages from senders they do not know or have not posted with in the forums.
2. Block the offending sender and click on the message box which alerts Customer Support of vulgar, etc. messages.
3. Do not reply to the offender's message .... Which only encourages the offender to keep harassing them.
4. Set their profile to invisible status. (This does not give the impression that a member is anything other than in control of their own profile and message functions.)
I, myself, have requested that the site install independent function features on the member profile which may allow the member to have separate control over their full profile, messaging, and posting photo without having to disable all those functions in order to 'protect' any one of them.
Good luck to your female friends who are having these problems with their messaging function.
As a last resort those members may find it more advisable to delete their problematic profile and re-join the site.

My answers to cupo:
1.But what if it's some really hot guy they want to meet with?
2. How do you ( or any other lady) know the picture is vulgar before it has been opened?
3. the few who say they have responded to these threats to publish the aforementioned pictures so this is not a problem.
4 as mentioned and contrary to your post it does cause others to accuse you of being a troll or non serious poster.
Last resorts should be just that a last resort.
Personally I have received only one hate mail here and I quelled that poster by breaking the rules and posted the entire contents of the PM in a thread , I was immediately blocked and I in turn counter blocked and problem solved.
ps. I know it was against the rules but no one enforces the rules so who cares?

Read the site rules.

I do not understand why men think we would want to see their penis. Most of them are rather small and I tell them so LOL

You want to see them. That's why you are advertising that your webcam is up and how to contact you.

1. I do not open pics on dating sites 2. If I can see part of the msg and tell it is spam, I do not Open it. But simply Delete. It would be nice to be able to mark or block Without Opening certain messages. 3. I do Not accept Friend Requests from person I have never chatted with. I do NOT want to Have to accept nor issue a Friend Request in order to chat with someone to determine IF I Want to be Friends with them or not.
Like anyother email. A Spam box would be sufficient. One could check it if needed/wanted.
