The Abenaki Indians are the Native peoples of Vermont.

This thread is so people can discuss Abenaki Indian culture, history, traditions, politics, and current events as relates to the Abenaki of Vermont.

The Abenaki flag has been flying outside of Missisquoi Valley Union High School in Swanton, Vermont, since November 2013.

It flies alongside the Vermont state flag and the U.S. flag.

I heard that the Vermont Native American Affairs Commission recently voted not to support the state recognition application of an Abenaki band. It's still up to the state legislature and governor to vote on state recognition, however, if the VCNA doesn't support that Abenaki band's application, then it makes it tougher for them to win state recognition.

I wonder why the VCNA voted not to support that band's application?

It was one of the Koasek Abenaki bands that the VCNAA rejected.

My question is why?

Why is the Vermont Commission of Native American Affairs acting like that towards that particular Koasek Abenaki band?

Whatever happened to Abenaki unity???????
