I'm with you, John. I remember listening to 1999 as a teenager and it seeming like the distant future. When the 1999/2000 NYE rolled around, all of my grown children were little kids wide-eyed at the fireworks and staying out at a festival until midnight.

Everyone keeps asking, "Where's my jet-pack?" and "Where's my flying car?"
But I think there's a bunch of us from the 1980's wondering, "Hey, where's that nuclear war?"
I don't remember having very high hopes for the year 2000 back then.

I remember thinking at the time, that the world was finally looking up to date and serious. I was turning thirty, after all.
Now I look back, and remember all the mullets, and realize that it was just as dumb a time as the seventies. A lot of great music, some of which I hated at the time.
