I love mine!
I wake up at 4:30 usually and do my hour before work. I get on it watching TV or when surfing the Internet
It has become very easy to log lots of miles.
I'm at 7.81 miles for my 7 day running average.
They are great!

It was just a $100 Craigslist special. Nothing super fancy. It tells me my speed and time and miles, but either the treadmills at the gym are de-tuned, OR this one runs a little faster than it thinks it is. I set it on 7 mph and it felt more like 8-8.5. Either way. A better alternative than coming home and sitting on my rump to watch TV when I could be walking/running.

Does the incline only go to 10.0 or is it a more commercial treadmill that goes to 15.0? A lot of in home treadmills don't have as large of an incline range.

It doesn't come with an incline setting. But that's no problem. I'd built a tiered ramp with brackets for my old one. I just have to get it out from underneath the old one.
Each step up is the equivalent of approximately 5 degrees. Just have to hop off, swivel the brackets, and lift it up or down a level.

Taking initiative in a creative way. Good stuff! Never heard from a treadmill not having an incline setting though. But since you found a work around it's all good anyways.
If you really want a good workout, you should buy a Prowler sled. They're about as half as much as they used to be, and it gives about as good a conditioning work as you'll find anywhere.

Why do you feel compelled to insult me? Is that how you 'encourage' the people you train? By insulting them? That's the number one reason I hate trainers. That's a nasty way to live.

What in the hell are you talking about? You couldn't have taken what I said more wrongly. It seems like you've had some bad experiences with being insulted or trainers crapping on your workout routines. While that sucks, it has nothing to do with me.
My mindset was simply this. You look like a woman that enjoys a variety of different exercise and would like the intensity/challenge the Prowler offers. So as a fitness enthusiast, it would be something right up your alley. I still don't get how what I said insults you in any way, shape, or form.

When I say that I've never heard of a treadmill without an incline, I question how well the machine is going to hold up. Granted, you only paid $100 for it and it was more for in home convenience. But still every other treadmill out there has some form of incline option, so why not make sure you have all the options? I mean there is a reason why you're adding your own incline apparatus. I still think that's awesome BTW.
But I still don't understand how me saying that something will give you a really good workout insults you or what you're doing. If anything, I mentioned it because you seem like a woman that's in great shape who loves to bust her ass. When I come across people who love fitness, I like to mention things like the Prowler, battle ropes, etc because people who love fitness usually like variety. I mean you obviously do a variety of training right? So for the last time, I truly sincerely meant no ill intent with anything I said. I just think you've had some bad experiences with trainers in general and that makes you a bit sensitive on the issue.

Too much jogging may be as bad for you as not putting on your running shoes at all, a report in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology says.
Scientists studied more than 1,000 healthy joggers and non-joggers over a 12-year period.
Those who jogged at a steady pace for less than two and a half hours a week were least likely to die in this time.
But those who ran more than four hours a week or did no exercise had the highest death rates.
'Upper limit'
Analysing questionnaires filled out by all the people in the Danish study, scientists concluded the ideal pace was about 5mph (8km/h) and that it was best to jog no more than three times a week or for 2.5 hours in total.
People who jogged more intensively - particularly those who jogged more than three times a week or at a pace of more than 7mph - were as likely to die as those who did no exercise.
Researcher Jacob Louis Marott, from the Frederiksberg Hospital in Copenhagen, said: "You don't actually have to do that much to have a good impact on your health.
"And perhaps you shouldn't actually do too much.
"No exercise recommendations across the globe mention an upper limit for safe exercise, but perhaps there is one."
Scientists are not yet sure what is behind this trend - but they say changes to the heart during extreme exercise could contribute.
'Brisk walking'
In their report, they suggest: "Long-term strenuous endurance exercise may induce pathological structural remodelling of the heart and arteries."
Maureen Talbot, senior cardiac nurse at the British Heart Foundation, said: "This study shows that you don't have to run marathons to keep your heart healthy.

Thank you for posting this information, Clarence.
This is exactly what my cardiologist recommended as my exercise program, brisk walking, and cycling, five miles per day every day ... Walk, cycle, ride, cycle etc .... I was diagnosed in the 1990s with a heart birth defect and have, subsequently, been privilege to know that my heart has, indeed, mastered the ability to "heal itself" and save my life.

Some will go at 8-9 mph as easily as those who do 5 mph.
And I wonder how accurate the study is...
And strenuous exercise...many run for several hours a week at a comfortable effort level...is that "strenuous"?

That study has many limitations, it's conclusions are not certain
Due to the fact that this data was collected prospectively, there are considerable limitations. The main limitation is that although the total number of joggers was quite high (around 1,000), once these joggers were split up by duration, frequency and pace of jogging, some of the individual groups were much smaller. This was particularly the case in the most active jogging categories (those who jogged more often, for longer, and at a higher pace). This reduces the ability of the analysis to detect differences between these smaller groups and the sedentary group.
For example, there were only 36 people who were classed as “strenuous” joggers, and only two of these people died. These small numbers mean that we cannot say with certainty that there is definitely no difference between people in the most active jogging categories and the people who are sedentary.
They acknowledge that their study cannot determine whether the jogging patterns themselves directly caused the differences in risk of death seen.

My legs aren't trained for treadmill running. During the summer I can run outside all day if I wanted to. But can barely run a mile and a quarter on a treadmill.

Whilst labouring on a fixed upper body exercise machine at the gym yesterday, I observed a girly on a treadmill running intervals at 16.5 km aka 10.25 mph. she was running spells then jumping off periodically and resting her feet on the side rails, clear of the still rapidly moving belt. I formed the opinion through observing this behaviour that she must have been doing some form of interval training with a view to improving her performance. She was a total skinny minnie, built like a veritable daddy long legs and looked a likely candidate for the pursuit of this esoteric exalted realm of aspirational athletic activity.

First time I hear this. Running on a treadmill is usually easier than running on the ground because you don't have use the muscles that push you forward as much.
I think it's because I like the scenery and I'm physically going somewhere so I never notice how far or long I'm running. But when I check my tracker I've already ran a 5k after 15 minutes.

That's no guarantee, the training isn't specific enough. Otherwise there'd be lots of infantrymen making 15/5 k seem ordinary

That and the running requirement for the infantry is two miles in less than 15/16 minutes. Sure you can run faster, but if you could run that fast, you would have signed onto a division one school for a full ride track scholarship.
