I do both. I have a gym membership. But have a weight bench and treadmill at home. My gym however offers many group classes that I do enjoy.

I did a long time ago too. When starting out it would feel like you have to already be in shape or have a decent strength level to go to the gym.

If you start working out at home, I recommend a set of the adjustable 100 lbs x 2 dumbbells that you can buy on ebay, and an adjustable bench. You'll be able to workout every muscle group with those 2 pieces of equipment and build up a decent strength level til you feel like buying more equipment(like a squat cage gym) or joining a gym.

I find it easier to be motivated when I go to the gym. I don't worry about the others there.

Just the gym, except for a pullup bar I have in my apartment. But I'm all cramped in a 300 foot square studio. Got to get a bigger place soon, but it can't be in Manhattan where I am now or it will cost an arm and a leg.

I try to workout outdoors as much as possible. I have a 50lb weight vest and I'm 235 with just body weight. So when I put on the vest I get plenty of resistance doing push-ups, walking lunges, pull-ups, dips, etc in the local playground. Also, full burpees with the vest on are BRUTAL. I also love to workout at a spot near me that has 15 massive flights of stairs too. There are also days where I take my Prowler sled (with weights I keep in my car) and my battle ropes to a near by parking lot to get workouts in too.

The only time I workout indoors is if I'm doing max incline treadmill walking without holding on. Still one of the most brutal cardio workouts.

I drop weight like bugs on a bug zapper in the summer. It's too hard to go out and run this time of year in Illinois. If I had nothing else planned and no responsibilities, I would run outside all day in the summer.

Same for me. I can get too easily distracted at home. Once I got in the routine of going, it's been much easier. It was just getting into the groove of something new. Change is difficult sometimes.

You're not there to impress, if you are your in it for the wrong reason and it won't last. I started at home with P90X lost a few lbs, started going to a small hometown gym. Now I go to a large gym and love it. It's addicting. Don't worry what you think others think of you, in reality you have no idea.

I went to a gym many years ago...but got tired of waiting for machines, tired of the time it took to go there and come back..

I do well on my own at home and run during winter..

The gym was fun for the socializing, variety of equipment and "pumping up atmosphere though..

I am just starting to get my area set up. I really miss all of the people that I

I usually workout at the gym but working out at home is always an option and most importantly available. It never closes lol. There all all types of home workouts we can do that dont require gym memberships. I do both anyway...more results. Good question though.

Depends on what you are going for. Calisthenics and other body type workout s can be done at home. Weights and machines specifically within your gym, you have to go to the gym unless you have a home gym. Personally, I do both with a mix of going to thepark and doing some old fashioned chinups, pullups, and bench dips.....gamer

I do go to a public gym sometimes.
But I prefer working out at home.
I like to train alone. With solitude.
It's like meditation for me, and my workouts are better.

I like the motivation at the gym. I don't care what other people think. I'm there for me. The gym is new, the equipment is very nice and the classes are fabulous! I so look forward to it. My child is enrolled to and will start going with me when she turns 12 this year.

I'm far more comfortable at home than at the gym. I don't workout for social interaction. I workout to get results, and that's exactly what I'm getting with P90X! I love and prefer working out at home. I saw someone else say it's like meditation for them. That's exactly what it is for me, and I push myself way harder at home than I ever would at a gym. It never closes so I can workout when I want, and I don't have to wait on machines.

I found out that my local Walmart sold several Gold gym items. From free weights to belts
and gloves to dumbbells and dumbbell bars!
Now it will take me less time to workout since I can change my dumbbell weights much faster!

Yeah, extra db handles make a big time difference when using different weight db's. I bought a pretty sturdy Gold's Gym bench press bench from them before which I also used as a squat rack because the bench wasn't attached to the bar supports. I just recently bought a Gold's Gym ez curl bar from them too.

Need the motivation, so I joined a High Intensity Training Bootcamp
( about 1.5 years ago). And joined Zumba and water Zumba classes as well.

Otherwise, my workouts at home would more than likely not happen!

And no waiting for machines!

I go to a small time gym. There isn't a ton of equipment, but never very crowded either. I also have a friend that converted his garage into a home gym. No ac...you'll burn some calories working in there.

I debate this all the time. I'm not good around being other people. But I push myself to go to gym. I do both gym and work out from home garage. I mostly did elliptical in the gym. At home I feel better to do other weight lifting and other type of exercise. I mostly do video workouts now at home which has helped me a lot more and get better results than the gym. So now I mostly do video workouts, Insanity, and some weights that I have.

To be honest, it's really up to you and your preference in environment. Where do you feel most comfortable and most motivated to do what you want to do?

Good luck in your workouts. No matter what, just keep at it, even if you don't see results right away. From my experience, it takes time and I still feel I have lots to go...

Both. Steps, treadmill and dance at home. I find a lot of nice workout equipment in second hand stores. I shy away from bands and gimmicks. I do old fashioned warm ups before I go to the gym using 2lb cans.
