OP - Don't think of it as being rude. Bad breath can be a sign of: tooth decay, oral cancer, lung cancer, and about a hundred other bad things. Telling someone they have bad breath may get them to go to a doctor, or dentist, in time to save his / her life. Think of it as doing them a favor. Hand them a breath mint, smile, and say: "I don't mean to be rude, but you need this. Perhaps you should see a doctor, and be sure you're ok." If they can't take helpful advice, and so get angry, yo are better off without them.

tell me how that's going to go..she wanted to know how to do it and not be rude (which is to be impolite or ill-mannered) and there's not way you can't not be rude if you're broaching something like that.

now some of us don't care..I'm with you on that one...it's generally health related..and sometimes they just don't know..they get "used" to it. So with some warmth and caring I'm usually able to bring it up (Sweetie did and guess what, he needed some dental work like I did..in particular he had an abscess and didn't know it) so we share a dentist too.

but to just say "your breath smells like ass" isn't going to cut it..decide if you want to still see him OP and bring it up nicely..."do you have a tooth ache? or been having any mouth sores" etc...and buy a sample Listerine for the car and swish and spit and offer it to him..you'd be surprised he might just swish and spit with you

People that have dental issues usually realize their breath is toxic, but not because they can detect the odor.

It's no different than being in biology w/boiling animal. Smells to high heavens at first though you adjust to the scent. You just do not wish to leave and return. It's in the same vein.

I choose an edentulous mouth w/mini-implants inserted in the mandible. Full top plate uses suction to stay in place & over five years I've never used any type of adhesive. You learn to chew on both sides simultaneously. If I attempt to chew ribs/steak initially on one side the top will dislodge, however upon continuation it "pops" back. The saliva forms a seal.

It is a much cheaper alternative than teeth maintenance. Perhaps not for everyone, but I'm happy as a clam. Easy to clean and works remarkably well. The big dealio about the lower implants is that the plate doesn't float.

You can yawn/laugh w/o them popping out.

Stop kissing them. I did that with my last boyfriend. He smoked and his breath smelled like crap all of the time. He finally quit smoking and it still smelled like crap. He had dry mouth or some kind of medical problem I guess because his mouth was always dry and it turned me off.

As was mentioned the offending odor could come from:

dental issues: abscesses,a rotting tooth, not practicing good oral hygiene suck as flossing and brushing. Dental issues can cause heart problems.

diabetes,

digestion issues,

not drinking enough fluid.

certain medications

You might say, " I like you very much and wouldn't want to hurt your feelings for the world. I think you may have a dental or health issue as your breath is very strong. I hope you will consider making an appointment with the dentist to see what might be causing the problem. If there is nothing wrong, then you need to see a doctor. I would hope that if I had this problem someone would be a good enough friend to let me know".
